I started writing this review as soon as I got home because our lunch experience there was so bad that I need to get it off my chest right away.
To put it in perspective, I’m in my late 50’s. I’ve never ever left a restaurant without leaving a tip. I had left nominal tips on a handful of other occasions due to poor services and foods. However, today, I did not want to leave ANY tips at all.
The following factors are in decreasing order of the contributions to the 1-star rating and zero gratuity:
(1) Menus - After we sat down, we were given a menu for each of us. They are identical. The menu items look strange for a Hong Kong bistro type restaurant with only main dishes and noodle / rice plates, particularly at around noon. Only after our dishes had come, we realized we had not been given all the menus available. A party of 4 sat down next to us while we were eating and they were given 3 menus. The ones not given to us listed congees, noodle soups and snacks from which I would have selected my lunch order if these menus had been presented to us.
(2) Time - It took 30 minutes with 2 follow-ups for our 2 orders to come out. I had fried flat noodles with scrambled eggs and beef and my husband had tofu with mixed vegetable hot pot. See (3) below, they don’t take 30 minutes to make. I also had to follow up separately for a complimentary beverage with my noodle dish.
(3) Our Dishes - Continuing from (2) above … My noodle dish lacked flavour, particularly the noodle which was void of any wok flavour. All there was in the tofu with mixed vegetables hot pot was tofu puffs, lettuce, broccoli and gai lan and it was $20 for a small pot. It would not have taken 30 minutes to make. In addition, the dish description was deceiving. Both the Cantonese and English names of the dish say tofu. They did not say tofu puffs. We all know they are very different things. Some of the broccoli pieces were 10cm long!
(4) Comfort - We were both sweating buckets in the restaurant and I was only wearing a T-shirt. It was cooler when we stepped outside of the restaurant...

On a Tuesday afternoon at 2:55 p.m. when we placed our orders, three other tables were already eating or finishing up, we waited over 30 frigging minutes for the "沙爹牛肉炒河 Stired Fried Rice Noodle with Beef and Satay Sauce" and over 45 OMFG minutes for the "菜遠牛河 Stir Fried Noodles with Veggie and Beef".
When the food arrived, the waitress exclaimed the Satay Beef Fried Noodle was "cooked beautifully," but in fact she was trying to mask the fact that the chef took ages to cook such a simple dish when a typical chef takes less than 5 minutes. Seriously, lady, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to make this. Almost every Hong Kong-style cafe in GVA offers this dish and just cook as good, if not better.
The noodles for both dishes were loose. Small pieces rather than long strands; one has to eat with a spoon—chopsticks just can't handle it. I guess that's why it came with a fork and a spoon.
The taste was okay, but my wife and I both complained that the beef was excessively tenderized; it had zero meat taste.
The amount is much less than other restaurants, such as Tsim Chai, Cantonese BBQ, and Happy Day Cafe, to name a few. Any of these restaurants have at least 25% more than Lucky's.
We came all this way to be monumentally disappointed....

We came to this restaurant with some out of town friends. It is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. There are two doors, one with a lot of signage that you think is a side door but it’s the front door, there is also another double glass door around the corner.
I was pleasantly surprised that the pricing was very reasonable. For dinner we ordered 2 sets of 1 lobster + 2 dishes for a total of 2 lobsters and 4 dishes for 9 people.
Lobster 1 with Ginger and Onion Lobster 2 with Cheesy Cream Sauce - the sauce was so tasty, a few of us just ate it with white rice Steamed Sea Bass with Garlic Sauce (+$7.99) Tiger Prawns in Salted Egg Yolk Sauce Chicken with Salted Fish Tofu Hotpot BBQ Pork We also added House Special Fried Noodles with Chicken, Scallop, Fish, with Super Crunchy Noodles.. the noodles came out like a brick house with all the items in the middle. If you love crunchy noodles, this does not disappoint.
Whole meal included tax and tips come to $33 each for 9 people.
The servers were busy but attentive and friendly, we will definitely return again.
I also took photos of their lunch specials in case anyone wants to go by for lunch. Regular menu pricing was also...
