I really don't like to give 1-star reviews. My reviews are generally 5 stars. I managed one of Canada's well known restaurant chains, so I know a thing or two about service, quality and how a restaurant should operate. I was absolutely disgusted with this place. First of all, my partner and I were sat at a dirty table with food scraps all over the floor beneath our seats. We stood up and moved to another table ourselves. The server on duty left us sitting there for approx 20 minutes while he sat other guests - AND, actually took their orders!! I couldn't believe it. He took the orders from 4 other tables that he sat after he sat us. We watched as each of those other guests received their food. One of the tables even received their food before we got our drinks!!!!! When our food finally arrived, the server dropped it down and rushed off. No cutlery, no napkins. So I went to get them myself and I asked for my bill immediately. I said to my partner that I asked for the bill and with a bit of luck, we might get it by the time we finish eating. Guess what, we finished our food and he still didn't bring the bill. We had to go up to the bar and call him over. This was the most pathetic service that I've ever received, EVER. The only reason this place is in business is because they are one of the only bars in the airport before security clearance. If this place was located in any other area other than the airport, they'd be closed down. Absolutely horrendous, laughable and a poor excuse of...
Read moreWorst service ever. Waited ten minutes at our table before the server showed up, and they were not busy. We ordered and ate. Food is overpriced, but fine. We waved down a server for the check. She said she'd send our server over right away. We watched her tell him. Waited another ten minutes. Waved him down a send time and ten minutes after that, we waved him down a third time. He kept saying he'd be right back with our check. Finally, I stood up and waved my arms over my head to get the check. We asked for times and waited 45 minutes for the check. Server did not apologize, nor did he offer a discount. When we asked for a discount, we were denied. His attitude was infuriating. We asked to speak to the manger. Suddenly, we could get a discount of 10%. We said we'd wait for the manager. He told us it'd be a half hour wait for the manager. She showed up in less than ten minutes and gave us half off. I don't think she liked that he'd tried to get rid of us before she knew what happened. I did mention that I wondered how many people just walked out...
Read moreI stopped in at Urban Crave before going through security at YVR and was pleasantly surprised. My IPA was fresh and crisp with a solid hop character, and the beer list had a nice variety, which is rare for pre-security dining. I ordered the BLT bowl, and it hit the spot for something light yet satisfying before a flight. The salad ingredients, especially the avocado and cherry tomatoes, were fresh and vibrant, which I didn’t expect in an airport setting. The food sits around a 3.0 to 3.5 for me: simple, honest, and done right. What really stood out was the service. My server was exceptionally friendly and attentive, even with the usual airport rush. That kind of warmth and professionalism goes a long way when everyone is in transit mode. The atmosphere is about a 3 to 4. It’s an airport restaurant, so there’s background noise and constant movement, but the space feels open and upbeat enough to relax for a bit. All in all, Urban Crave delivers more than you’d expect for an airport stop. Great service, fresh food, and a good pint to send you...
