This is the bar/lounge in the Fairmont YVR Airport. As expected the ambiance is beautiful but is still approachable and casual. Seat yourself. It was very busy with only a few bar seats open when I was there Sunday evening after my flight but that definitely had something to do with the Superbowl as it began to clear out once the game was over. After the game was over there was live music by a guitarist and singer. The Jetside Lounge has its own menu distinct from the Globe Restaurant also at the Fairmont, but I was also given a Globe menu to order from. The Globe is more upscale dining while the Lounge has more along the lines of elevated bar food, and while the Lounge isn’t cheap, the prices are definitely more approachable than the Globe prices. I was tempted by the Globe menu but decided I didn’t want to pay $40 for cauliflower steak, so I got the roasted beet poke bowl off the Lounge menu. It was very good! Kind of simple, but it was a nice combination of fresh vegetables with a tangy shoyu sauce. The tiramisu for dessert was also delicious. It was served in a bowl like a trifle. Underneath the layer of ladyfingers there was a crunchy cocoa biscuit layer which was kind of different and I really liked. Also, there was complimentary bottomless seasoned popcorn brought out as an appetizer which was super tasty. The service at the bar was friendly and very attentive. The kitchen forgot(?) to bring my tiramisu but the bartender checked on it and brought it out when they had a chance and took it off the bill, so no harm done since I was...
Read moreOur group of 5 decided to treat ourselves to lunch here after sending our sons off to Denver Sunday Jan 7/24. To begin with, if you think you are going to sit and watch planes land and take off, you'll be dissapointed. You'll watch the back end of a wing of the terminal. The food was what you would expect from any low end restaurant. The burger meat was a factory patty that I've had at cheap roadside truckstops. The chicken was your classic factory tasteless rubber chicken. The fries were lukewarm McCain style battered fries. The service was minimal at best, having to flag down our server to get additional condiments. Each time our glasses were refilled with water, the server would dribble water across the table. I guess this saves time when wiping the table down for the next customer. The only saving grace to this disaster of a "restaurant" is that we got a 3 hour parking validation. Given the prices, quality and experience, I would never...
Read moreFour stars is an amazing review for an airport restaurant. We stayed at the Fairmont overnight, which is literally inside the Vancouver airport. This is the hotel restaurant/bar and it’s got a very cool view of the jets taking off and the mountains in the distance. The bar is great and the bartenders were very attentive. The martinis are tiny. But you just order more of them lol. The exchange rate is good, so we got out with a dinner for under $400 w tip. Which is a pretty good deal… we had the oysters, which were literally divine. We split the signature burger which had great flavor and was plenty for the 2 of us. Calamari was a little too breaded but crab cakes were nice.. who can complain. The Turkey sandwich was out of this world! They even had live music🎉We didn’t need to leave the...
