I genuinely like this airport cafe, which highlights the local flavours of Vancouver and features both made-to-order and fresh grab-and-go deli food, and baked goods and coffee from beloved local institutions Purebread and 49th Parallel, respectively. There are also airport snacks and souvenirs, some generic, some also local. The service is unremarkable - I’ve gotten some nice people, some people who are just going through the motions, no one on either extreme end of the service spectrum. The food is what’s worth writing about because it’s not just airport-good, it’s actually good. The baked goods are just as you’d find them in Purebread stores in the city. Very well made, and the scones and muffins come in interesting flavours, not just the generic blueberry and the like. They’re also big! A whole muffin or scone here plus a drink easily tides me over for breakfast, and I can never resist getting a dessert with my sandwich or salad and eating the whole thing, but if I wasn’t travelling alone I’d want to split with someone. I’ve found the sandwiches and salads here to be probably the best of their kind I’ve had in an airport. I usually have a strong preference for a freshly toasted sandwich over something that’s been packaged in advance to sit in a fridge even if I’m going to be waiting to eat it, but even the grab-and-go stuff here appeals to me. I just had a tuna salad sandwich from the fridge that came on this fluffy focaccia bread that was delightful. Back when they first opened, I tried the smoked salmon bagel, which was fresh and overall enjoyable, but the advertised “strawberry caper relish” that it was supposed to come with was more like a watery strawberry jam, and was only applied to half the sandwich, which made me think it was some weird mistake until I double checked the menu and saw that my salmon bagel was indeed supposed to contain strawberry. It’s an interesting idea and I like interesting, so, since they’d just opened, I’m kind of curious to try it again and see if they changed the recipe, but as it was this was not a great execution. It didn’t ruin my sandwich but it didn’t do anything to improve it. That is the only complaint I’ve ever had with the food. The ginger chai is my go-to drink here. It’s really aromatic, it’s possible that it’s lightly sweetened just to smooth out the flavour but it doesn’t taste sugary or syrupy. And they always get a nice froth on top. It’s an airport, so you expect to overpay, and this is no exception. Most sandwiches are around $16 (these are big and filling, but still hard to justify $16), bagel sandwiches are around $13, and I think the scones and muffins are around $8. The previously mentioned tuna salad sandwich, a dessert bar, and a packaged protein bar cost me $30 today including tax, which did make me stop and question myself for a moment before I settled for it. But I know I’ll be back because this is just good food, and in an airport, you’re going to pay anyway, so might as well spend the cash on something that’s...
Read moreWe had an amazing stopover at Vancouver Airport that truly exceeded our expectations. My girlfriend, her friend, and I initially tried to visit the Stanley Park Taphouse but were very disappointed. The atmosphere and service there did not meet our expectations, and we decided to look for a better option.
Our decision turned out to be the best choice we made. We found Pacific Farm Market and were blown away by the experience. We ordered a delicious pizza, a couple of perfectly mixed Caesars, and an exquisite espresso martini. Each item was outstanding in its own right—the pizza was flavorful and cooked to perfection, the Caesars had just the right balance of spice and tang, and the espresso martini was a delightful mix of rich coffee and smooth alcohol.
However, what truly made our visit memorable was the bartender. This wonderful gentleman had a fantastic personality and went above and beyond to make our stopover special. He was engaging, attentive, and clearly passionate about his craft. His recommendations were spot-on, and his friendly demeanor added a personal touch to our experience.
The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, providing the perfect setting for us to unwind before our next flight. The combination of excellent food, well-crafted drinks, and outstanding service made this a five-star experience.
