L'Estaminet — Restaurant in Rivière-du-Loup

Me and my GF is having an onroute bypassing this town, 9:10pm. looking for a restaurant at least to have some food. we entered the place first it got a bit noisy, some other people yells and i cannot hear anything until the server arrives. we decided to takeout the burger instead. it was 3 tables inside and 2 tables outside. But it took about 30mins. no one checks on us and no one telling me to order anything else. all i see is the servers trying to play at the counter. I understand this is a Saturday night, everybody wants to have some fun. I'm a little rushing because I still need to go driving because im the one who's driving 18 hours. I ask the waiter how long it's going take. and he said just go. all i ask it's how long the burger will out? this manner makes me mad. totally. I know Quebecs aren't very sociable with english speakers. and this time completely shows me that they only treat locals passionate. we are totally ignored. I'm a main chef works full time in a western diner, I know that a burger patty gets cooked only in a 10min max. you took 35 mins and telling me its almost ready and say get out. wow. I'm not a critique, but even the petstore's...

So I went in here because of the high rating and figured it was for the pub food. I nevertheless ordered a stir fry hoping it would atleast be descent.

I had the Thai stir fry. I imagine it would be considered some canadian/Thai fusion type dish but it rocked my socks off! I absolutely loved it! It was chalk full of all sorts of veggies. Has a mild spice to it (I'd probably ask for more if possible next time) it had a citrus taste to it and the portion was quite large. I am still quite impressed!

The service was also amazing! I got seated right away, the server brought me some water and I asked if I could keep the large bottle she was pouring from. I finished pouring the rest of the bottle in my glass a few minutes later and the next minute she had brought me an even bigger bottle of water. My meal came quickly and I was out the door in 30-45 minutes. When traveling for work and eating solo its nice to be able to be in and out of a restaurant quickly.

I wanted just a glass of whatever house wine they had but the waitress didn't understand and insisted I order something off the drink menu. I ended up having just water out of frustration. I ordered the pan seared steak, cooked rare. It was at one point grilled to the point of where it was charred AND pan seared. It came out well done and tasted disgustingly burnt. I couldn't even cut into right away because it was covered in a mound of peppers and onions. I had to clear my plate just to get to the steak. The fries were good but the "gravy" was, well I don't really know what it was... I will not be going here again. Throughout the meal we had three different waitresses checking on us, very confusing seeing as we were only there about 35-40 minutes. It's very expensive and they focus more on atmosphere and presentation rather than...
