Donnie's Bistro — Restaurant in Rossland

I just had the absolute worst Paella of my life, and I can't believe how bad it was! Seriously, do the chefs here even know what Paella is? That sad excuse for a dish was a joke.

There was barely any seafood—just some tiny frozen shrimp and scallops that looked like they were thrown in as an afterthought. And the color? What color? It was a pale maybe they thought the dish was Palella, lifeless mess with zero flavor! How on earth does this place have a 4.9 rating? My friends and I thought we were in for a treat since it was packed, but we were dead wrong.

The food was mid at best and ridiculously overpriced! We waited almost an hour for our reserved seats, only to be served this disaster. If you care about your taste buds and your wallet, do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place. It’s 110%...

They were serving us right away with papadums and chai tea, BUT then a 50 minute wait from our arrival time until appetizer course arrived!! The restaurant was full and apologies were made, but that's still far too long. Problem seemed to be the kitchen, not the servers. The food arrived properly after that initial wait and service was friendly and attentive. Food was tasty and servings added up to a full meal that was very filling. We packed the dessert home and a bit of left over mains. The flavours were not as interesting and complex as a typical South Asian restaurant - certainly not 'hot' spicy curry. Such a great place! We were attracted by the atmosphere - the patio with its lights and seating and the restaurant are amazing! The menu has lots of tasty options (we’ve tried dinner and breakfast!). But what really makes the difference and what will keep us coming back is the way the servers and staff made us feel. Eating out with kiddos often feels like an impossible task, but the staff at Donny’s made us and our sometimes rambunctious crew feel so so welcome. There’s activities, space and seating for small humans and incredibly friendly and patient staff. Donny’s will be the spot we bring all of our visiting guests and are planning our next (hopefully not so distant future) date night! (The beer menu is stacked!)...
