What a gem! As a child of a successful restauranteur, I come by my love of tasty food, valuing ambience and service excellence honestly. Idgie's combines these three in a way I know my exacting father would approve of highly. To start the environment is relaxed and inviting without any fuss. Clearly if you bring your good intentions to this place you are welcomed. However from the time you are approached by the waitstaff to serve water and orient you to the specials, the full charm offensive of this place begins. Let's start with the no fuss specials board: again I never would have guessed at the delight of tastes that were soon to follow but again, even the basic specials sign communicates welcome and a groundedness in what Idgie's is and what they offer. I started with the butter and garlic mussels that set my expectations suitably high for my main of a lightly pan fried trout that thrilled my taste buds. For the final act, the cheese cake was the epitome of flavour and balance - not too sweet, not too much, not over the top. It was just right.
Idgie's is a living testimony to the fact that it is possible to achieve high standards of excellence in food without any fluff or fuss. I guess this is more telling about my likes but I truly value a restaurant where it is clear that the owner's vision includes tremendous attention to detail ranging from having high levels of skill, expertise and care in the kitchen coupled with competent, knowledgeable serving staff who have been empowered to take care of restaurant guests. Loved this place and would happily return. Cheers to Idgie's on a vision that continues to be well executed in its...
Read moreIdgies was formerly a wonderful fine dining restaurant, and I have had several terrific and memorable meals there. Alas, that Idgies is no more, and in its place is a similarly named, or possibly different (depending which documentation you refer to) Mexican restaurant.
We walked in, and with no one to seat us, and no ‘Please wait to be seated’ sign, we somewhat awkwardly seated ourselves. The (possibly) owner soon came over and seemed less than happy we had been so presumptuous. Not a great start.
The classic Margaritas were bad, there’s no other way to say it. It seemed like there was almost no tequila or triple sec. The food was okay, not great. Maybe these are growing pains.
One recommendation to the new owners. If you were intending to deliver the same type of food that the previous incarnation of Idgies produced, then it would be possibly appropriate to retain the name. But since you are delivering completely different food, you owe it to the dining public to change the name to reflect the...
Read moreHad the most unfriendly host. We walked in and right away we were going to leave! She asked if we wanted to eat inside or outside...we said inside... she right away said we'll wait. I was vacuuming and everyone else is on the deck... okay we sat. Then she brought us the menu and proceeded to rip the menu out of my adult granddaughter. When she asked for a menu she did some remark under her breath and brought her a menu. She brought us water and it was very warm. I asked her for cold water... she brought us one glass of ice. So we shared the ice... it melted right away and was still warm. Found long hairs on the table... she was going in the kitchen with no hair net. Being we are not familiar with Mexican food I asked questions. Very rudely she said we'll it's all explained on the menu... that's when my granddaughter said... well I don't have one... she got her one and practically threw it at her. NEVER AGAIN WILL I STEP FOOT IN THIS...
