Dragon Roll Sushi Market — Restaurant in Saanich

I quite like the taste of their sushi and it's very convenient since I live very close but I have come to realize it only one of their staff actually makes the rolls so if they're not there you can't order anything other than what they prepared. They're operating hours state they're open till 8:30 PM last week I was in at roughly 730 and I was only able to choose what was from the case. I was not able to order from the menu because as the cashier stated they have no more rice ? This is now happened for the third time. There are three rolls that I particularly love the here and they’re not always available at the end of the day straight from the case the male staff member who usually works there knows my order inside and out and is quick to prepare it when I walk in the door. Very frustrating and somewhat convenient when the lady who works there is operating the store always says that there is no rice available which is a pretty convenient excuse for I don’t know how...

Felt scammed with my order. Truly disappointed in the quality of our meal. It's really too bad how low this restaurant has come in order to pinch pennies. I suggest going to other sushi restaurants if you want better quality.

-Nigiri fish was sliced so thin I could see through it. The tuna was questionable in freshness so I unfortunately had to throw it out.

-gyoza was stone cold, traditionally they're served fresh and still warm off the grill. These gyoza were pre packaged and tape sealed like it was made the day before or they didn't sell what they over made.

-dragon roll was just california roll wrapped in the same thin sliced old tuna. Avocado inside was hard, not ripe.

-dynamite roll was excessively drenched in mayo that wasn't flavorful at all. The deep fried tempura inside was stale and soft, you could tell it was not fresh, no crunch at all. Again, questioning the freshness...

I mean, it's a local small business. Do you really want flashy decor that you have to pay for in the cost of the food? The prices are relatively inexpensive, but what does that really mean nowadays? The young fellow Manning the till didn't say boo to me. He barely even looked up from his phone as he sat in the window. Only when I got to the till did he get off his butt, come over, take my money and just walk away without even acknowledging me. The food didn't make my guts roll around, and it was tasty. There was a decent but average sized selection to choose from, though not huge like Fujiya. Would I go back? Yes. Just don't...
