Generally I’ve enjoyed my meals and time at BON sushi in Royal Oak. Today not so much. I arrived at 1:46, I sat down for not even 2 minutes with my friend and was interrupted by the waitress ‘ready to order?’ I politely said no I needed a still needed few minutes, I’d just sat down. She came back another couple minutes later, I was a little sheepish - ‘sorry I’m still a little undecided’ (it had been 5 minutes since I arrived) ‘our kitchen closes in half hour’ (it was 1:51 and they close at 2:30) I apologized and made my decision within another minute and we placed our orders. Our food was ready within 10 minutes. The food I will say was delicious as it usually is. But I still had 6 pieces left on my plate, I was holding my chop sticks and talking with my friend the girl asked if I was finished.. ‘no..I’m still working on it’ (2:15) A couple minutes later she dropped our bills off at the table. My friend had just finished her last piece of sushi and I asked for a package for my food - to which she seemed shocked? Like, I’m gonna waste the 5 pieces of sushi left on my plate that I’m paying for? 🤨 She came back with my food and states I’m being charged another .50 cents for the container (styrofoam) I shrugged it off but - change your to-go containers, charging for people to take left overs of their food is a little ridiculous.

We left by 2:25. We felt rushed the entire time and barely were able to converse. At 2:11 two men walked in to be seated and they were turned away. If your kitchen closes at 2:30. That’s when you stop taking customers. I worked in restaurants from 06-2012. I never rushed customers out before we were officially closed and I never turned customers away unless the kitchen was actually closed.

Some kitchens close 15 minutes before close, kitchens with deep fryers and grills etc that are used for the majority of the food, I get. But this is sushi. And it wasn’t the end of the night, it was the end of lunch.

TLDR; BON sushi rushes their customers out the door/turn down potential customers just so they can leave work right when...

I am a regular at Bon Sushi and have been for sometime. i have tolerated the service for the past few months and have restricted myself to only pick up orders but now they have hit rock bottom and i will not be coming back. For my birthday i decided to take my friends to bon sushi for dinner... we waited 15 minutes for service at our table and we were the only ones in the restaurant other than a couple with their baby. After finally getting menus and water the waitress took our orders and left. When we received our food the waitress knocked over my previously poured soy sauce all over my brand new coach bag i had received for my birthday. The waitress didnt clean up the mess or say sorry for spilling all over my bag... which she clearly saw. Tonight; two months later after this incident, i went again with different people, despite what previously happened on my birthday i agreed to go. I got the same service in the dead restaurant as last time and there was 4 servers on shift that night. I had to go and get my own water from their serving station because they were no where in sight and we had waited 20 minutes. When we received our food finally we were given no plates and had to get them ourselves and at the end of the night we had to grab our own receipts because the waitress left before we had even took our card out of the chip machine. ( i would understand this if it was busy... but we were the one of two tables in the restaurant at the time.) I did not get a sorry for either of these experiences... i really hope someone does something about this. The dates were January 29th and March 11th 2013. I really hope nobody experiences the same...

Online ordering is a bit odd. The website has a number of mistakes including a whole paragraph that was just left in from the template they used. When your order is done, it just says "up to 35 minutes for takeout" so i showed up at around 35 mins. They seemed very confused as to who i was, at which point they say "oh was this an online order? i haven't had time to look at those yet". Wait what?! my order has been sitting unseen for 40 minutes now and its NOT started? That's a frustrating failure of process. I think they were busy and a bit overwhelmed but that's a really poor customer experience. However, my 2 stars isnt really about that, Covid has made everything more difficult for everyone and im giving them a bit of a pass on that. My 2 stars is because the food was REALLY mediocre. Nothing was great and a few things were eaten only because I'd paid money for it. One of the main disappointments was that they pre-sauced a bunch of their rolls (for takeout), so instead of getting food home and adding on sauce fresh, it would already be saturated and soggy when we opened them. Just not all that enjoyable...

Most everything was ok but do NOT order anything that says "real crab". It's actually some kind of mealy stuff, that's dry and flavorless, as if it was once crab that was ground up & dehydrated then rehydrated with water. Zero flavor and the worst/dryest texture/consistency that it was completely inedible and I had to send it back! 🤮 The waitress initially refused, insisting repeatedly that it was real crab that "every restaurant uses" but I've been to close to 50 sushi joints and have never seen the like. Usually when people pay extra to substitute something with real crab they get something that looks and tastes like real crab. 🤔 Eventually when I insisted it was dry like sawdust and wasn't edible, did she roll her eyes and take it off the bill. Honestly if a patron says something is inedible and hasn't touched it then you should just take it off the bill and not argue unless you taste it yourself and disagree, perhaps it was just old or not stored properly..? Furthermore take it off your menu completely, it's disgusting and ruined my opinion of this place. Would not return. Photo proof attached.

Sushi from Bon Sushi is a take-out staple in our house. Always always always their sushi is fresh and delicious. Todays order was california rolls for the kids, spicy tuna fried rolls and baked salmon rolls for the parents. Ingredients are always top shelf. I'll eat the avocado pieces my youngest makes me pick out of his cali roll. It green, perfectly ripe, tastes great. Not brown or too hard. Baked salmon rolls are amazing - on the right in the photo (sorry its a little blurry). Salmon is baked perfectly. Cream cheese and asparagus add tang and crunch. First time trying the spicy tuna fried roll - on the left in photo. Loved it! Very hearty. Every piece made you feel like you were eating something of substance. Would order again in a heartbeat. 10/10. Highly recommend Bon Sushi in Royal Oak. We have never been disappointed in approx 25 times ordering from them. Excellent.

I've had the Bento Box twice in the past month since our office moved into the area. Everything about the variety of food that comes with the Bento Box [and then some] is delicious; plus, the care and due diligence of packing a to-go order is amazing - they vent the tempura container and plastic-wrap the miso soup. The food is flavourful and is more than you get in a typical Bento Box. This is the Chicken Katsu Bento Box: Chicken Katsu, Mixed Tempura, Mixed Veggies, California Roll, Seaweed Salad, Rice and Miso Soup. All for under $25.
