Capitaine Pouf — Restaurant in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

We felt like fish and chips today so we decided to try Captaine Pouf for lunch.

We arrived at noon and we were second in line. The indoor seating section was closed. The only seat remaining was on an uneven surface on the paver stones AND near the bathroom. Fantastic luck we had. We took it.

We were seated at 12:25 pm. It took 10 mins before the waitress arrived to take our order. While waiting we checked out the menu and the establishment. There were about 25 tables, seating on average, 4 per table AND there were only 2 waitresses for the entire place! They were taking orders, making drinks, seating customers, cleaning the tables and cashing out the customer. The pressure was on them.

We ordered the large fish and chips with fries x 2. It came out quickly. Thankfully the food was great. The tarter sauce paired well with the fish. The fries were spot on. Even without salt they tasted great.

When we were ready to pay for our meal I spotted our waitress. She was caught in behind the bar taking payment for a line of customers. She say me from a distance from the platform and waived for me to come to the bar to pay. Seeing that the line of customers was growing exponentially to enter the restaurant I obliged and got into the queue to pay for our meal.

My belly full and the sun shining I found myself in a pleasant mood. I felt sorry for our waitress. I tipped her knowing full well that she deserved it considering she never forgot about me even when the pressure was on her. She...

Honestly upset about my first experience at this restaurant, I really wanted to eat steak and saw they had some on the menu. My hubby tried the fish and rice, the dish was extremely plain…. Fish with a small bowl of rice and a side of mini coleslaw and tartar sauce. But the presentation was lacking. I had the rib steak, there was no bone and boy did I have to work my way through the meat to get anywhere lean. I’m usually not picky but that was one of the worst pieces I’ve ever had. I had asked for a rare meat, and got medium to very cooked center (sides were alright) but one of the waitresses did ask me multiple times how it was so that was fine. They provided great service and the food was excellent, but unfortunately, they completely ruined the experience due to an error on my invoice. I didn’t notice it right away, but when I reviewed the bill later, I saw that they had charged me $31 for a large Caesar salad that I never ordered.
