A $60 Date With Disappointment (And Only the Lobster Kissed Me Right) It was my first time here, and I came alone but I wasn’t planning to feel alone. You’d think they’d charm a solo diner with a seat by the view, but no... they tucked me away upstairs in the loneliest corner like I was a secret they didn’t want anyone to see. Romantic? Not exactly. I asked for an iced tea. The server poured it like it was fine wine, then whisked away the bottle, half full. Um... was that rationed or just rude? Let’s talk food. The crispy pork bites? More like crispy heartbreaks—dry, chewy, and a jaw workout I didn’t sign up for. The dipping sauce? Tangy, spicy, and just plain wrong. Like a bad blind date that shows up with no personality and too much cologne. Then came the lobster bun and fries. The lobster with garlic aioli? Finally, someone (or something) understood the assignment. Tender, flavorful, seductive. But the bun was small—tease—and the fries? Dry, bland, and abandoned on the plate like they gave up on life. Not even a sauce to save them. In the end, I paid around $60 for a solo meal (including tip) to feel... unsatisfied. A tragic romance of missed potential. I can’t say it was worth it but maybe I just didn’t order the right dishes. Perhaps there are other items on the menu that shine. Maybe I’ll come back. Maybe I won’t.

I recently dined at Saint John Ale House, and I have to say, it was an exceptional experience. The food was nothing short of amazing, and each dish left a lasting impression. Starting with the Wings, they were incredibly fresh and flavorful. They were so tasty that they didn’t even need any additional sauce, which is a testament to their perfect seasoning and preparation. The Oysters, while a bit on the pricey side, were absolutely worth every penny. Fresh and succulent, they provided a delightful taste of the sea that was simply unforgettable. The Fish and Chips were another highlight of the meal. The fish was fresh, encased in a superbly light and non-oily batter. The chips were crispy and cooked to perfection, and the accompanying tartar sauce was a delicious addition that enhanced the dish beautifully. To complement the fantastic food, the drinks were equally good, offering a refreshing balance to the rich flavors of the dishes. Overall, Saint John Ale House delivered an outstanding dining experience with top-notch food and great drinks. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable meal.

Part 1: Monday night visit to SJAH. Ethan was server and service was top notch. Ordered the Pan Seared Halibut. Wow, great meal. The fresh halibut was seared with a nice crispiness on the outside and nice flakiness on the inside. Done very nicely. Served with veggies and mashed and everything tasted outstanding. One of my best meals over the last few months. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed with this meal. Part 2: Probably would not normally edit a review but returned a week later and enjoyed my meal so much I thought I would add to my review. Service by Sierra and everything was excellent. I had the Crosby molasses salmon and it was equally as good as the halibut I had last week. The molasses was not overused, just a nice glaze on the salmon. And the salmon was cooked perfect and the served plate looked beautiful. I will give a shout out to local Yip cider original. I had not tried it before and enjoyed it a lot. I found it worked with the salmon quite nicely.

aint John Ale House - The Epitome of Local Excellence

The Saint John Ale House is, without a doubt, one of the finest dining establishments I've had the pleasure of visiting. This place truly stands out, not only for its commitment to serving all-organic, locally sourced meats but also for its consistently good food, beautiful ambiance, and exceptional staff. It's no wonder this has become my go-to restaurant.

One of the most commendable aspects of the Saint John Ale House is its dedication to sustainability and support of local farmers. Knowing that the delicious meal in front of you is crafted with the finest organic ingredients sourced from the area adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience.

The ambiance of the restaurant is another highlight, beautifully designed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're dining indoors or enjoying the charming outdoor seating, the setting perfectly complements the gastronomic experience, making every visit memorable.

But what truly sets the Saint John Ale House apart is its staff. The team here goes above and beyond to make sure every guest feels welcome and valued. Their knowledge, friendliness, and attention to detail ensure a seamless dining experience from the moment you walk in until you bid them goodbye.

In conclusion, the Saint John Ale House is a jewel in the crown of the local dining scene. It's been a over a year since I have tried Saint john Ale house due to not one but multiple poor experiences. I can handle poor servers, and kitchen accidents or mistakes but for how much a meal cost at this High end establishment i have yet to be served a dish i was satisfied with. Today was no different.

Axil Salad- The smallest portion of Salad mix with a high price of 15.98.. I was shocked at not only the small portion of greens but how the chicken i ordered with it for an extra 8$ was chard Black and harsh to taste.

Pork Bites- 14.23..... other than the fat and grease at the bottom of the dish that had a great salty taste the bites were over 70% Fat that pulled apart like toffee and it was dry and rough.

Grilled Romaine Salad - 30.62 ( CRAZY ) that my partner got... She ate 25% of it and i figured she just didn't have a big apatite so me being extremely hungry at this point took a bite and realized that it wasn't her being full but the fact it wasn't worth the one bite i took

I wish i could stop there but unfortunately the service and specifically our server lacked any drive or spunk. I don't even think she attempted to engage in a conversation with us . It was just all around another poor experience Worst part was i had a gift card i got for Christmas last year that covered half the meal.. but i still felt robbed leaving wondering what i paid for.

I recommend you take you're entire serving staff on a field trip up to Moncton and go to IHOP for breakfast and take note on how they interact with customers. For a high end restaurant in saint john I think it's time re evaluate your establishment or think about selling to someone that will turn your place...

Server failed to check on us after our food was delivered so she wasn't able to fix the mistake on my meal so I couldn't eat it. The server kept coming back to the table beside us, but never made her way to us.

Also, server failed to notice that my chicken was completely untouched and didn't ask if everything was okay when she eventually did come back to our table (well after my dining partner had finished her meal).

In addition, our server failed to mention the massive upcharge for an additional yorkshire pudding. I didn't expect it to be free, but $6.00 for muffin sized mixture of - essentially - water and flour seems a bit steep.

It was nice of the server to comp our meal, but I didn't want a free meal...I wanted a meal made right so I could eat it while it was hot. After driving in from out of town, we just wanted to eat a good meal at a place that had (otherwise) been a reliable restaurant over the years.

Overall, the food was high quality (I.e. quality ingredients) but not cooked well. My dining partner - who loves salty foods - even told our server that her mashed potatoes were way too salty (words I never thought I'd hear her say!).

Restaurant was incredibly hot/humid. No amount of cold water could cool us off. How do people work in those conditions??

I'd probably go back, but I certainly wouldn't be in a rush...
