Let me start by saying I hate to write this, but an honest review it must. This restaurant started with everything going for it.
Location, decent location, nice to have something close to there, but most of the combos is food court-style buffet. Unfortunately, not a showstopper by any means. I want this restaurant to succeed so I hope this will be taken as a positive critique and not by any means as a way to discredit them.
I took a combo and added a couple different dishes. The order came nicely packed in a paper bag with the soups on top all in nice containers. Although nice to have everything in the same bag, the beverage cans were added to the hot food and that for me is definitely not acceptable as it cools the food and warms the beverages. They should definitely be in different packaging.
Won ton soup, oh my, it was definitely one of the best items of the meal, but once again it is a buffet style won tons. Lots of paste and a little meat. Won tons can be delicious with an amazing nuance of taste. This was not that… although they offer hong kong style won ton which probably is a lot better.
Egg rolls, they were good, 1 out of 4 was slightly overcooked and slightly burned.
Fried rice, although a staple in many Asian kitchens, this one was dry and lacked depth of taste. Under seasoned it could have used some of the soya sauce from the macaroni.
Macaroni, it was very dark and all I could taste was the soya sauce.
Cantonese stir fry, Cantonese egg noodles looked nice but they were not cooked properly, they felt undercooked as they were tough to eat. Most vegetables were crunchy, I was looking for a wonderful Wok Hei which I just didn’t get.
Soo Guy was good.
Ordered a General Tao, would have liked a bit more sauce and a bit spicier.
Also had the Sesame Beef, I found that a lot of the pieces had too little beef.
Overall restaurant has potential, but the owner has to abandon the food court-style cuisine as I don't feel it properly showcases the beauty of asian cuisine. I'm not sure yet if with this experience I want to return. The lot of positive reviews do make me question if I only had a bad experience because of the items I ordered. It is likely I will give this a second try in a bit of time. I'll update this review if I do try more...
Read moreSo dissatisfied. I don't even know where to begin. The green bean dish was so off-putting, it went in the garbage after one bite. The other guests couldn't even stand the smell. They used a thickening agent that congealed and looked like it was covered in beige Jell-O. And it smelled like your high school chemistry class. Their Kung Fu fried rice (must be their signature dish to bear the restaurant's name, right?!) was so bland it couldn't be eaten on its own. Use long grain / jasmine rice and dark soy sauce! The stir-fried bean sprouts and veggies, although bland and tasteless, at least had fresh and well-cooked veggies. I can't say the same for the other dishes though; those vegetables were all mushy (except for all the clumps of onion whose layers stayed intact). Essentially, all the remaining dishes were dry protein, mushy veggies, raw onion, in a bland sauce. Maybe it was a bad chef, on a bad day. Maybe I ordered all the wrong things that day. I'll never know because I definitely won't be returning.
PS. Contrary to others' comments, I did not find the portion sizes large at all. I ordered takeout and all the containers are a size or two smaller than most other Chinese...
Read moreI dislike writing negative reviews but my experience with the food here left a lot to be desired! The order placing and the expected time to prep went well. Waiting in line to pick-up my food along with the reviews I read built up a lot of hype hoping for an authentic foodie experience.
We ordered the imperial rolls, general tao, sesame beef and orange beef. The rolls were good! However they omitted putting the sauce in for dipping them... which is a huge no-no to me.
The main dishes themselves were very disappointing, I was expecting good quality Chinese food but it looked and tasted like sub-par food court grub. The sauce from one dish to another was completely indistinguishable. Several family members tried the food and we were puzzled how this was happening. An error in the kitchen? A pretty bad one if that's the case. I tried all 3 plates with my eyes closed and beyond the texture of the sesame beef... they all tasted the same and none left us desiring more than one portion.
More than half of the food was thrown away. Very underwhelming experience to say the least, doubt...
