I am giving this restaurant a rating of 3 stars based on my most recent experience. Originally, I would have given it a 1.
This was the very first restaurant I visited in Saskatoon the day I moved from another province. Keep in mind, I have tried my fair share of burrito chains, including as Taco del Mar, BarBurrito, Burrito Splendido, Qdoba, and even Chipotle in the States. I was extremely disappointed by the quality of the food and the service. This gave me a bad impression not only of the burrito restaurants in Saskatoon, but also of the city itself. When I ordered my burrito that evening, I noticed that I was receiving the bottom of the barrel scraps that were leftover after a dinner rush. Although the ingredients seemed old and dry, I was excited to try a new burrito restaurant that I haven't tried before, and I gave my benefit of the doubt and hoped that the visual impression would not match the taste of the burrito itself. The server (I'm assuming she was either the manager or the owner), seemed disinterested and rushed though my order as fast as she could. When she handed me my burrito, I noticed it looked very flat - more like a pancake than a round burrito. The taste did not live up the my expectations, nor my experiences at the many other franchises I've visited. The burrito was very dry and the ingredients inside were almost cold. Also, I've never heard of a "four-topping limit" in any build-your-own style restaurant. However, I understand this isn't an issue the particular restaurant can fix; rather, it's is a complaint towards the franchise itself.
Regardless, I wanted to give Mucho Burrito a second chance, thinking that maybe it was an off night for the staff. I visited again on my birthday in early August, and was greeted by a different, much more pleasant employee. She was the most kind-hearted and sweet lady you could imagine. She even offered me a free churro for my birthday. The overall taste of the burrito still wasn't quite my style; I found that the spice wasn't as potent as I'd expect for a Mexican restaurant, and all of the ingredients didn't mesh together as I would have liked. The four-topping limit makes it difficult to construct a burrito with how I'd like it to taste. However, this sunshine of an employee changed my negative opinion to a slightly more positive one.
Lastly, Mucho Burrito's chips and queso side is very affordable. I believe it is under $3 for a bag of chips and a decent portion of cheese sauce. I'm disappointed that my first experience gave me a lousy impression, and that the franchise has to limit the amount of toppings you're allowed to add before...
Read moreThe last few times I’ve been to this location I’ve noticed a decline in the quality of food and service. My partner and I dined in last week, and the experience was all a bit odd. No where on their menu could I see that a burrito only includes 4 toppings, the menu says “protein + toppings”, but when I was ordering, I abruptly got cut off while ordering to be told only 4 toppings were included, and this included salsa. From my experience, other Mexican grill restaurants don’t limit topping numbers, so this is a big deterrent for me to choose this restaurant over others. Even just noting this on the menu would have been helpful for the ordering experience. While I was ordering, a few other people came in behind me, and the worker seemed to get flustered and rushed to put my burrito together. It was not adequately rolled or grilled, and was soggy and very difficult to eat.
Also, my partner got tacos to eat. The corn tortillas were not adequately warmed, resulting in them falling apart the moment she tried to eat them, and she had to eat her meal with a fork, as all 3 tortillas fell apart completely when picked up. One of the tortillas was ripped and missing a large piece out of it to begin with.
Overall I was not pleased with the experience, considering it was $40 for both of us to eat a “fast food” meal. This is the 2nd time I’ve been disappointed in the quality at this location, and don’t...
Read moreHonestly, this is the spot. Best make your own burrito place in Saskatoon. Been coming here for around 6-7 years now. From the first burrito I had to my most recent, this place has always been it. It was love at first bite. The ladies who serve me are the most friendly and welcoming customer service reps on the planet. Always make me a wonderful burrito, and over the years we've developed great banter. The quality of ingredients and portion sizes are far better than other make your own places such as bar burrito. Every burrito I've had has been just as good as the last. These days I rock a small burrito and leave satisfied with a full tummy every single time. If you're itching for a quick bite and a burrito is on your mind, this is the spot. No doubt about. I will be continuing to come here as long as it's running. Thank you guys for making every experience here the best. Overall -...
