My wife and I have been coming here for a number of years and when family or friends visit from abroad, Foundry is where we take them. It will be difficult to briefly summarize our fondness and love for this place, but I will try. I would describe Foundry as a restaurant for people who love restaurants. The menu has a great selection but not overwhelming, balanced in a way to satisfy a wide array of palates. Foods that I can only describe as fine foods including a myriad of seafood, varying pastas, and very nice cuts of meat with amazing sides have found themselves onto the menu, and even the more casual fare like a burger or chicken sandwich still maintains a level of flair that isn't pompous or unneccesary and contributes to the uniqueness and taste of meal. Fresh ingredients and meat are locally sourced and they pride themselves on that. Everything about the food seems deliberate, from the cooking to the plating, you can sense the care and pride that went into it. What I really love about this place, and what I believe has contributed to its success, is their features. The menu is fantastic, but it is clear as day that they love to cook, and that is made manifest through unique dishes offered on different days. These dishes are often more experimental and can extend to many things like regional style burgers, specialty tacos with varying styles, international dishes, things that you would hear the name and you just want to try it. The limited time features also often extend to appetizers. The only downsides to this is you may love a specialty dish, and then its gone! I think one or two dishes have returned when we've been there much to our enjoyment, but the specialty features are new and exciting, and I genuinely mean that. My wife and I get excited about great food, that's why I described it as a restaurant for people who love restaurants. It always manages to remain fresh and new while maintaining a consistent and great menu in case the special feature isn't something up your alley, which does happen. The other downside is that obviously we can't go out to eat every night, and if day after day they have an amazing feature that is only available on that day, you're going to miss some great dishes. If we were millionaires we would eat here daily and not miss a thing. The bar is well stocked and features local beers, in line with their sourcing locally. Our son was born in January, and going out to eat with him has never been an issue here. I think we've actually been taking our Henry here since he was about two months old, but mind you he's a good lad and doesn't cause a fuss. In the warmer months the patio is lovely, and along the railing you see the herbs growing that they harvest and use. Across the street sometimes you can sometimes eat your meal while watching the children play at the baseball diamond which is really cute and adds something special. It is a family business, and the staff are personable and very friendly. Couldn't reccomend this place more. A hidden gem where they clearly love to cook. If I can give you one piece of advice, upgrade your fries to duck fat fries. Something about eating fries fried in duck fat makes me feel like a king.

With a Google rating of 4.7, I had high expectations from Foundry Kitchen & Bar. This restaurant serves fusion cuisine with a mix of Italian, Japanese, Mexican and Mediterranean. Our server, Jason, was very friendly and efficient. Jason informed us of the Thursday's Taco Carnitas special shortly upon our arrival for dinner. Soft Shell Taco Carnitas $18 We ordered the Taco as an appetizer. There were 3 soft shell tacos with diced pork strips with shavings of onion and pink turnip. The Taco size is small but tasted decent. Tomato Salad $20 The tomato salad is an appetizer that comes with cheese, basil pesto sauce and one piece of focaccia bread. There was a total of 2 large tomatoes chopped up in quarters. I get it that the ingredients are sourced locally. But the portion is small and frankly the taste was underwhelming. Salmon Rice Bowl $32 This main course consists of large blocks of grilled salmon on two pieces of bok choy and a bed of sushi rice. The salmon were all churred (black and overcooked) on one side. The vinegar taste of sushi rice did not go well with the salmon. Honestly, for $32 I expected better. 10 oz Steak and Fries $42 This main course consists of 10 oz New York striploin steak with tons of fries. It was cooked to medium as our per request. This dish was fine. Kid's pasta $8 When we asked Jason for a little extra cheese on the kid's pasta, we were informed that there is cheese already. There would be an extra charge for adding some parmesan. Overall We were underwhelmed by our experience at Foundry. While the restaurant sources locally on produce and meat, the mediocre taste and small portions coupled with high prices left much to be desired. And I have never been asked for an extra charge for extra cheese for a kid pasta at any other restaurants including fine dining ones.

We preferred to visit this place based on positive reviews. Ours was a very sad experience… We ordered crispy chicken & fries. Our fries were soggy and swimming in excess oil. Chicken was cooked well but in the process dried out. Also, we love the ambiance of the building itself and felt that owner loves this place very much but vibe of restaurant was very confusing. High end hand soap and very well maintained and clean bathrooms were very nice. For some reason, white table cloths were covered with paper cloth and this was decreasing the feel of high end dining (if they were hoping to offer this experience.). Plus serving food in metal trays instead of nice plates again does not match with white table cloth dining. Interior is really lovely and very rustic on its own. Hope they match their table cloth (or no table cloth), their food presentation in proper plates instead of metal trays, and do a good quality check before serving a food to table… Another sad thing, our son (3 yrs old) was with us but no one offered kids menu.

The foundry is HANDS DOWN mine and my boyfriend’s favourite place in Port Perry, we’ve been coming here since it opened and have absolutely always loved the menu, with its cozy indoor seating or the cute patio in the summer it can be very different at times and push your taste buds to new heights! Tonight we had the salt and pepper shrimp (phenomenal) the pasta with sausage (perfectly creamy and delicious) and the smoked pork chop (which I was totally bugging the chef to spill the secret on how it’s SO perfect). Even though some favourites leave the menu there is ALWAYS something new and delicious around the corner! The service also speaks for itself wonderful people serving even more wonderful food, also NEVER skip the drinks! They are hand crafted to perfection and served beautifully, if you need somewhere to try something new this is the place!!!!

We were in the area, so my husband happened to find the restaurant while Googling places to eat lunch. We were not disappointed! The seafood smashed burger and Nashville hot chicken sandwich were delicious, and the side Caesar salads we got were done perfectly, which was a pleasant surprise (most side salads are more of an afterthought). Our kids got grilled cheese sandwiches with fries (they also had the choice to get burgers or pasta), and those were done well. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful, and our server was attentive, checking on us frequently. We sat inside, but there was also a patio, which was popular because it was a nice day. Plenty of parking was available, which was great. Would definitely recommend and would visit again if in the area!
