When I heard of this restaurant being in the area, I was very excited. I live 40 minutes further out from Port Perry and my town has no Tamil restaurants. I was incredibly disappointed. Food was ok - I’ve had better. Overpriced for small portions. The same kinds of dishes just down in Oshawa or Whitby at a Tamil-Sri Lankan restaurant can be bought for more than half the price they’re selling here and bigger portions. 2 mutton rolls shouldn’t cost 12 dollars. 1 kothu roti shouldn’t cost over 20 dollars. I think the owner knows he’s got a bit of a monopoly on South Indian/Sri Lankan food in the area and has marked up his prices to reflect this for local (white) people who don’t know any better. Tamil food is not a pretend-luxury gourmet. It’s a comfort food - it’s part of our culture and a way to share our culture with non-Tamils. Owner has clearly lost sight of that. As a fellow Tamil, I had higher/better expectations. I was very excited to finally have a Tamil restaurant near home. I ordered my takeout, talked with one of the Tamil server girls there about how upset I was about the pricing and left the restaurant with my food, feeling very sad and heartbroken.
