Really unhappy with the apple fritters. We've been coming to Hank's for over ten years when visiting the region and we've had the giant fritters every time. Since the pandemic the restaurant has changed, I think there are different owners now? But lots of products are gone and the fritters aren't made like they used to be. They're now made with a pocket of apple chunks in the center, not diced up and distributed throughout the dough. I had one two years ago with the pocket of apple and it was extremely bitter, I was hoping it was a fluke so I ordered again today and upon biting into it I found that half the donut wasn't even cooked. At first I thought it was the apples releasing their moisture into the dough but I've made a lot of desserts and it's definitely not been cooked properly, the dough is raw and malleable. It's not exactly surprising given the apples are lumped wet into the center, it's better to distribute them throughout, and I'm guessing the oil was too hot which would give the appearance of being cooked through. It's a disappointing experience and not the first. I've given two stars because the kids working there are nice enough and some of the other products are ok but it's no longer worth making a special trip for this.

I love this place, man. Whenever I head north to Algonquin park I try to stop in to Hanks. The first time I went I showed up right when they open their doors. It's a rustic and warm interior and they have a great selection of breads and sweets. The apple fritter is huge and tasted great. Their cinnamon rolls incredible. The custard slice was rich and sweet and amazing. Butter tarts are pretty good. I went recently around lunch time and they had no apple fritters. I would like to try their donuts next time. Mar 19. Head up from Scarborough this morning. Picked up a few treats from Hanks. Got my apple fritter this time. I should have bought more of the cinnamon rolls to freeze but I know I will be back again.

Weird experience I had at Hank’s today! My wife and I dropped by Hank’s after having our fantastic lunch at Captain George Fish and Chips on the same street, where we enjoyed their Haddock and salad so much.

All the bread and pastries at hank’s looked amazing and tasty. We decided to buy something though we don’t have a sweet tooth. We picked a bag of croissants and waited in line to pay. At that moment, there were four staffs were inside the counter. I was the third in the line. There was only one line. Hank’s set up 2 paying counters sharing one cash register which they put it in the middle of 2 counters. The weird thing was that the staff were not serving the customers in line in sequence. While one staff was staying at the first counter serving the first customer, the other staffs was not asking the next customer in line to serve, but asking other people in line if they needed anything. Once the staff packed all cakes and bread the customer needed, she asked that person to pay at the second counter.

It took about 5-6 minutes for the staff at first counter finished serving 2 customers in front of me. By that time, 4 of the customers behind me were served and left.

And the most interesting thing I encountered happening was when I got to the counter. I put my bag of croissants on the counter, holding my 5 dollar bill in my hand, ready to pay. But the staff stood there, did not serve me right away.

Luckily, I finally paid for my croissants after 2 more customers were served at the...

I have to say Thank God the long drought (of Hank's being closed) is finally over! I send my boyfriend from Richmond Hill to Hank's to get me their delicious Chocolate Lemon donuts and cheese buns, and am now also a fan of the new Birthday Cake donuts and Cherry Delight donuts. He enjoys the Honey donuts. I have a suggestion that hopefully the owners, if reading this review, will consider: after reading of the information that the owners are considering selling their business, that perhaps an alternative could be to open only for a shortened week on a continual basis as they are doing now (but perhaps for four days a week) would be better than selling as I fear that there could be a change in quality with new owners. And if a shortened week is not financially sound, then perhaps trusting a few long term employees to run the business two or three days out of six days a week could be an idea to think about. I can't even begin to imagine how many disappointed customers there will be if Hank's does...
