decided to go to Lucky’s BBQ the other day, and, might I tell you, they did not disappoint; in fact, it was so good that it’s a must for those visiting outside of Sechelt. The interior of the restaurant was a true blast from the past with the decor, and the moment you enter the place, you’ll start to drool instantly with all the aroma of smoked BBQ happening. The service was incredible. The lady at the front of the house was super helpful and friendly to us. She explained every part of the meal I ordered with great passion, and she made me feel like family at all times before, during, and even after our meal. The food itself—I don’t say this often, but it is to die for. I ended up getting the full chicken and ribs (a full rack of ribs, a whole chicken, four pieces of corn bread with butter, two large sides, Mac & Cheese, smoked beans, and two sauces). The front-of-house lady helped us decide what sauces were the best and explained everything that goes into the meal, which makes you salivate and want to eat it at that moment. And might I say, phenomenal? I ended up eating all of that by myself; yup, that’s right, every single last crumb of it was in my stomach, and the front-of-house lady had her jaw to the floor with impressed look that I finished it. The ribs had such an amazing smoked flavour to them and fell off the bone when you grabbed them, topped with their BBQ sauce (if I could buy it, I would; that’s how delicious the sauce was). The chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked, blasted with seasonings that were dancing all in the mouth, accompanied by a spicy mustard that made the experience so much better. Corn bread was soft and sweet, not dry at all like usual places. I could have eaten four more on its own; it was accompanied by some butter, and the sides were so massive that it could’ve been a meal in itself if you’re not a big eater. The mac & cheese was covered in what looked like various different cheeses and was very creamy and had incredible flavours that were worth the extra $4, that’s for sure, and the smoked beans arrived on a plate the size of a human head, but wow, so smoked with a hint of sweetness. It was so good that I ate the entire thing as it was on the plate. Overall, Lucky’s is definitely one of the few places I would tell people: "You must go there when you’re in Sechelt". Everything from the blast from the past decor, the friendliest service, the food that made you want to keep on eating even after being stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey, to the cleanliness of the place (super clean!) Lucky’s is definitely my new favourite BBQ place in all of BC (and I’ve had some of the best and the worst), and I’m definitely coming back to Lucky's from now on when I’m in the Sunshine Coast area. If you ever need a suggestion on good food places, Lucky’s is the place! PS: Get their BBQ spice rub after your meal. It’s so good and flavorful!...
Read moreWe were so terribly disappointed in this restaurant! We ordered the bbq dish for two and nothing was even warm, all cold upon arrival! The baked potato was supposed to be loaded baked potato! The potato was cooked in the microwave and then reheated in microwave! Everyone knows what that tastes like, YUCK! Menu says baked NOT MICROWAVED! All the meat had been previously cooked and reheated in microwave AND SERVED COLD AFTER WAITING ONE HOUR FOR OUR MEAL TO BE MICROWAVED! Really HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PRESS A BUTTON ON A MACHINE!!!!! When we complained about the food and sent it back we waited a long time again for more meat to be remicrowaved for one more time without asking us if that is what we wanted? We did not want more microwaved food! All food was absolutely horrible! The waitress went to bat for us and apologized profusely but said she could only get him to take off half the price even though the only thing that was edible was the side of mixed greens (basic salad)! I paid over $20.00 for a side salad with big chunks of raw carrots (couldn’t eat) and cut up cucumber, yellow pepper and romaine lettuce! There was no mixed greens? Would never recommend or visit this restaurant again!!! The only good thing about this place is...
Read moreI went to lucky's today and it was an OK experience. My wife and I ordered a brisket and Montreal smoked beef. The brisket was a tad dry, but had good flavour and a beautiful smoke ring. The Montreal smoked meat tasted a lot like ham. Nothing special there.
For sides we ordered corn bread (good, sweet), pit beans (very good but way too sweet) and Mac and cheese. The real disappointment of the night was the Mac and cheese. It wasn't neither baked nor smoked, which disappointed us for the rest of the food tasted good. $3 for a bowl of Kraft Mac and cheese is a hard pass. Photos show what I'm talking about.
Overall if you are in town this is a place that is worth going. I don't think its a 5-star BBQ experience, but it sure is worth your time and money, as long as you stay clear of the Mac and cheese and the Montreal meet. Grab yourself some brisket and biscuit, or maybe a pilled pork sandwich and you will be...
