I’m appalled with myself for waiting so long to sample the menu at this restaurant.
As anyone who lives on the Sunshine Coast will easily confirm, your options for dining out are extremely limited if you want to walk away from the experience in a positive frame of mind.
You have to be extremely wary of restaurants with five star reviews, as they are typically rated by the locals in terms of popularity, and not judged by the quality of the cuisine.
Saffron is the exception.
I lived in Vancouver for 12 years where dining out is simply de rigueur. I frequented a number of Indian restaurants during my time in Vancouver, but Saffron surpasses them all.
It’s the little details that I pay particular attention to, and I was impressed to find them unstinting in this respect; their basmati rice was cooked to perfection.
Their butter chicken was rapturous, and try as I might, I inevitably succumbed to the temptation of finishing everything in one sitting, although I was originally planning on saving a portion for the following day.
My partner, also from Vancouver, and formerly from the UK, having lived in London and Edinburgh, echoed my sentiment that Saffron produced some of the finest Indian cuisine that we have...
Read moreThough I love both Indian and Italian food, recent health challenges have made me avoid going out for either. Tonight, I was braced when I walked into Saffron tonight with my family, because of my diet restrictions [no soy, corn, canola oil, gluten, etc, etc, Medical Medium, for short] I preemptively decided that I would be glad if I could have a salad.
When we first walked into Saffron, a modern [Eastern] Indian restaurant with an extensive menu, I addressed my problem to the host/waitress and a man, the co-owners, I began to feel more optimistic, thanks to their open and willing attitudes.
The waitress and chef, after many trips by the waitress back and forth, made a unique and delicious vegetable medley. They combined the best of Indian spices with the simplicity and freshness of Italian cuisine. Likewise my daughter loved her pizza and my husband his korma. The price of our dinner was reasonable and the service was so gracious.
When you are on the Sunshine coast, if you a fan of Italian or Indian food, I highly recommend you plan to eat your main meal in Sechelt at...
Read moreCons: This is my first bad review and I hate to do it but after spending $50 bucks for this I thought it was my duty to give fair warning to others. We ordered take out to eat later on for dinner. I ordered the chicken tikka & prawns and butter chicken. The chicken tikka & prawn; the chicken was small (you can reference the lemon slice for size), dry, and with barely any sauce, it came with 5 small shrimp that had no flavor, the veggies were way over cooked and seemed like they had steamed it in the microwave. The butter chicken tasted like spicy tomato sauce and the garlic naan was not made in house and was 100% bought from either a supermarket or a dollar store but from personal experience I've had way better naan from Walmart. For $25 bucks per dish I would have expected way way way better. We would have been better off with microwave versions from the supermarket flavor wise and wallet wise.
Pros: the lady on the phone who took the order...
