I will preface my review stating the obvious, the food is good, the staff are good.
I've been going to Toast since I moved to the Edmonton area 6 years ago, I started out going to the St Albert location when I worked right next door, the owner was a client of my work and he is a pretty great business owner and client. Toast has been my go to spot for business meetings, brunch with my husband and our friends, and our family.
I was happy that a location opened in Sherwood Park, closer to me so I didn't need to go to St Albert to get my favourite breakfast spot in.
The last 4 times I've gone to Toast, the customer basis has shifted and are very terrible and they've continued to ruin the experiences. My husband and I, a young Indigenous couple were sat near some older folks, and on the other side of the wall were another young Indigenous couple. While we sat and ate our meal, we became quickly turned off of eating due to the loud conversation beside us about how all natives are drunks and drug addicts and how the Catholic Church should have eradicated them all. Then they went to talk about garbage political sentiments about people with mental health issues, disabilities and again addictions saying they all deserve to be locked up and they keys thrown away because there's no helping "those people".
Obviously this is not the restaurants fault, nor the kind ladies who run the service of food. They can't just be going and kicking out every Tom, Richard and Harry for being racist and rude to other people that are directly affected by their commentary, because we all know those exact same people will run to Google reviews and tank a businesses review score for poor management and service. It's unfortunate that so many businesses are being held hostage by this sentiment of like-minded older people with paler complexions because it ruins the experiences for the rest of us and we don't want to continue to spend our hard earned money where we don't feel welcome or safe - because at the end of the day, were all human and deserve to enjoy our meal without being continually subjected to these lead poisoned dementia patients who continue to make everyone else uncomfortable. It's also unfortunate that we have to be the bigger people and remove ourselves from the situations that occur daily, because the last thing any server wants to do is give a statement to the RCMP for assaults against senior citizens for running their mouthes with such disgusting and outdated view points.
I give 5 stars for service and food, but 1 for atmosphere, at no fault of their own but their customers. It is unfair to not speak up about the truthful experiences people of colour or other minority groups are subjected to by their customer base. I give and leave this review because it has been a pattern now for the last 4 visits, not just my...

As a long-standing patron who has frequented here for breakfast over several years, I've developed a clear appreciation for its consistent offerings. This establishment has, for a significant period, been a reliable choice for a pleasant start to the day. However, a gradual shift in its pricing structure is prompting a reconsideration of my future visiting habits, despite its enduring strengths.
One of the most commendable aspects of this place is its exceptional service. The wait staff are invariably cheerful, attentive, and genuinely helpful, contributing significantly to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This consistent level of hospitality is a defining characteristic and something that truly enhances the dining experience, making patrons feel valued and comfortable.
Complementing the excellent service is the quality of the food. The breakfast menu, while perhaps not groundbreaking, is consistently well-executed. Dishes are prepared to a good standard, ingredients taste fresh, and the portions are satisfying. Whether opting for classic staples or daily specials, the kitchen maintains a commendable level of quality that has reliably met expectations on each visit.
However, a noticeable upward trend in pricing has begun to impact the overall value proposition. While the quality of food and service remains high, the cost of a typical breakfast meal has steadily increased to a point where it is becoming quite expensive, particularly when compared to similar establishments offering comparable quality. This escalation in price makes it increasingly challenging to justify the same frequency of visits I've maintained for years.
In conclusion, it continues to excel in delivering a pleasant dining experience through its outstanding service and reliable food quality. These elements have fostered a loyal customer base, myself included. Nevertheless, the recent and significant increase in prices is a crucial factor that cannot be overlooked. While I will undoubtedly return to enjoy the charming atmosphere and good food, these visits will inevitably be less frequent, likely reserved for occasional treats rather than regular weekend stops. Addressing the perceived value for money could be key to maintaining the high patronage it...
Read moreWe loved Toast, the food is absolutely amazing, the eggs Benedict page is mouth watering . However this is the second time the service was absolutely terrible, I have never felt more like an inconvenience . I raved about this place so much that my husband got me a gc so I could get breakfast twice a week before our third baby arrives . I went in this time by myself and the server barely “served” me , I paid with my gift card and told her to charge the amount of the bill as I was going to leave cash for tip , to which she Loudly repeated the amount of my bill in disbelief that I wasn’t going to leave a tip.. the second time was today and now I was with my two kids and my husband , we come in at 730 am the server puts us right by the door where there is barely room for elbows , we ask to be moved to which she says pretty much it’s more convenient for her to keep her tables together .. toast is a busy place so the fact they had one server on a Saturday blows my mind to begin with. Anyway, the table beside us leave so we move over ourselves , no help what so ever . My 3 year old spilt his choc milk , I had to go ask for more napkins and she gave me 3 lol. We cleaned up the best we could , she brought our food and said “your cutlery is on the table You were sitting at” lol so here we are again going to get our own cutlery. No napkins. Asked her for napkins she never brought any, I went up and grabbed a stack. The food was amazing , but we didn’t get asked even once if we want more chocolate milk we spilt or how the food was . She came and cleaned tables around us totally ignoring us . By the end she did ask if we wanted more coffee lol.. anyway after this experience I think we’ll go support Denny’s. Hard to support a local business when you get treated like a burden .
Also the restaurant was half empty so the logic behind putting us by the door is...
