So on the 29th of August, My friends and myself wanted to go out and get some drinks and we chose Joeys. I had been to a different Joeys one time before and my experience was overall not the best but I was willing to give it another try. We got our first round of drinks and everything was going quite well. When it came time to order food everyone got there orders in and all looked well. The food came out in pretty good time but they were missing one of our party members main dishes, but then asked if we needed anything else. Expecting our last dish would be right out we said no we were good for the moment. Our original server hadn’t come and checked up on us and it was now 30 minutes and no last dish to be seen so we asked a host about it and she went and talked to our serve. Turns out it was a mix of communication and the dish never got rang it. No problem, our friend now just wanted it to go now since everyone else was now finished eating. This also was done by the expo who was doing all the checking up on us, our server was no where to be seen. As well, we wanted to order more drinks, but again there was no server to order from so quite frustrating. Finally the dish came out in a bag too go and we wanted our bills. We were greeted just before this by a new server who was taking over for our original server. She got our bills and was ready to take our payments, but the friend that had the dish that was never run in saw that he was still charged fully for his sandwich he ordered and never got to eat with us. He politely asked if it could somehow be discounted in any way, and the new server told him “well I wasn’t your server so this isn’t my fault”. He then asked if he could just speak to a manager then she stormed off to the back without saying anything. She brought back a discounted bill for the sandwich and she proceeded to angrily take payments. We were overall not impressed with the service so our tip percentages weren’t very high. Also our server would stand right behind you and not say anything while you were paying, making you very uncomfortable. When my buddy paid the server picked up his bill and said “Just by the way, on a $50 bill you usually wouldn’t tip only $2, you should always be tipping at least 15%”. This shocked us as a server should never be telling guests the proper amount to pay. As well, tips are earned, and she didn’t even deserve the $2 after saying that. Our server left and didn’t say goodbye, and we walked out having an overall terrible experience.
I have worked in the restaurant industry for 2 years now and I was shocked at how our night went. From the miscommunication on the order, to our lack of service to the comments made to us at the end. No guests should be treated the way we were. We didn’t even have a ride yet and we walked out and waited outside in the cold because we didn’t want to be inside anymore.
I called the restaurant that night and explained my frustration to Seanna, who I believe was one of the bar managers. She was great and let me tell my story and gave me the manager email address. She was very apologetic and I appreciated it very much. She told me she would pass on the message to all managers and that someone would get back to me. Again though, she was awesome and helpful and she did a great job so this is 100% not directed towards her!
I wrote an email explaining my frustration and still never got a word back. Joey Sherwood has missed their opportunity after being given many chances. I will not be returning to any Joey restaurants any time soon, and never to...
Read moreI was excited to leave a review after our experience at this place. It's rare I have an experience as good as this one. This wasn't a planned stop and we don't regret our last minute decision. What became a last minute choice for a place we've never tried, is about to become one of our favorite places to go going into the future, and we will be coming back often. We had what can only be described as an 'exceptional' experience at this place. Before I talk about the food I'm just going to address the waiters and waitresses. The service was top notch. I think we interacted with around 4-5 servers throughout our dinner, each and every interaction being genuine and full of smiles. Our personal server in particular was maybe one of the best servers we've ever had at a resteraunt, with actual genuine conversations and laughs and just an all out extremely positive experience. All the servers were clearly going out of their way to ensure every person around them was having a positive experience. Very 'uplifting' atmosphere. Would be a good stop to make if you've had a bad day, or a long day at work, simply just for that positive atmosphere. Now for the food... 5+ star experience. What would be found at the most exquisite resteraunts in Edmonton is here at this location for good prices. Their cooks are quite literally phenominal and who ever invented these dishes should be on the show 'Master Chef'. No joke.... The Keg is our favorite resteraunt and we compared it to the Keg throughout our entire meal It's difficult for us to say that this place might have the keg beat? The food is superb. I personally ordered the Steak and Ravioli because our server recommended it after seeing I was having a difficult time choosing between steak and lobster, which I most often order when I go out or trying something new. I'm glad I listened to his recommendation. It was out of this world. The ravioli is made from scratch with some sort of light white sauce and a prawn placed on each piece of ravioli. It was the best Ravioli I've ever had in my life. I went from not being a huge Ravioli fan to devouring my Ravioli plate exlaiming "man I wish we could cook like this at home". My steak of course came back 'perfect' and exactly how I asked for it. The arrangement on the plate looked like it was done by a highly professional chef. Like Something you see off a chef show at a highly sought after resteraunt. My son next to me, who ordered the tuna and cod tacos had the exact same experience with his order. We were stealing bites from each other's plates and both couldn't decide who's meal was better. Every bite was an explosion of food pleasure until the plate was empty. I can't rave enough about this place. If you haven't been here this is a MUST TRY! Pictures dont do anything justice. They don't show how tasty the dishes are let alone how much nicer the dishes actually look in person. This place is a must try. You won't be...
Read more11/30/24 Danial, oh gosh I forgot their name. 😭They were an amazing server and they did their darn best! I was only here for a company event so thanks for the awesome food and service. If you’re an average povo like me, you cannot afford to go here lol. One salad will set you back $20 and rib eye will set you back $70 for the upgraded one. $14 cocktail if you upgrade them. Not saying it’s not worth your dollar, you pay for what you get to some degree though. I am noob when it comes to opening Champaign bottles to coodos to you server for gracefully doing that as I usually just drink beer. Sushi really did just melt in your mouth $20 for it though? Mmm could probably get a buy one get one free on uber however the best quality I have ever had in Edmonton so nice work! Thank you for not making it spicy as my spice tolerance is terrible. I actually got to enjoy my food and destroyed my dish. The largest amount of pickled ginger on the planet, what an amazing portion. I got to try the “spring roll mashed potato” from the people at my table. That’s very creative and unique. Texture really did help and it was fun to eat. The appetizer of the won ton crumble and chicken with a little heat from the spices was also delicious and texturally fun to eat! Great use of won ton wrappers. Mai Thai drink was very bouji as it came with a REAL flower for garnish. Absolutely beautiful. The only thing I would say is an issue is that it shouldn’t take 3 hours for food to come out lol. However, it was a busy night with regular customers and a company event at the same time so I can understand. The amount of professionalism from the servers and cooks is insane. Despite food coming out almost 3 hours into service the presentation still delivered. Aside from the few hiccups, I believe Daniel made it a priority to make it right and fix the situation immediately. If I was richer I would definitely visit here more often. What a beautiful location with fancy candle lit tables. Also the bathrooms aren’t your average sit down. They’re fairly enclosed and the paper towels get replenished to dry your hands. I ended up eating my ice cream when I got home. Delicious maple. The personally sized apple pie was amazing. No shame I ate that in one sitting. 10/10 would come here again if I wasn’t a povo. 👍Average person should expect to drop $100 a person dining here with booze. Budget accordingly. If you like coffee this place makes some great Cortado. If you prefer a sweeter coffee this will be more on the bitter side. However the frothy milk makes it very smooth. Good stuff and actually...
