I've visited the Sherwood Park location twice in a month and lightening struck twice because I was blessed with the best British style Fish and Chips I've had in my 46 years of existence both times! The halibut was buttery, flavourful, moist yet flaky and the batter and deep fry were perfect to the point you couldn't even tell they were previously submerged in oil. Speaking of oil one of the owners, Jay, (more on him later) said he prioritizes fresh high grade oil and regularly changes it which is a key reason for the golden crispy shell that wraps the main attraction (the halibut in my case). Note, I did also try the haddock which if I didn't order the halibut would have been the best fish I've had in my almost 50 years on earth. The coleslaw was also excellent and a must add to your meal as it kind of acts as a palette reset between bites of fish and fries (like the pickled ginger is supposed to do with sushi). Back to the owners, Jay and Kevin who I was fortunate to talk with...they are committed to the highest quality product and service and you can taste the pride in their craft. They seek out the best fish, the best ingredients and the best chefs so you can be confident that your plate will be top tier. Did I mention that they also serve GLUTEN FREE options at no extra charge!?! Anyways to wrap this up I gladly offer my loyalty to Winston Fish and Chips and although the phrase goes "there are other fish in the sea", my response is - that may be true but there is only one fish I want on my plate - Winston's...
Read moreWe had heard that “Winston’s” was supposed to be a really good restaurant for fish and chips. What a disappointment. We started with deep fried mushrooms that tasted as if they were deep fried in weeks old grease. Like the flavour from the traveling exhibition. The batter had an odd, stale taste. To complement our ‘full meal deal’ of 2 pieces of fish with chips & a beverage, we ordered some onion rings. The onion rings were typical. If you put them beside an order from Dairy Queen, I don’t think you’d be able to tell the difference, other than price. When the main dish came, I was a bit disappointed when the chips were not fresh cut fries, as one would think they’d be for a restaurant that serves “Real” Fish & Chips. I recognized the flavour & coating on the chips, and the waitress could not deny when I asked about the ‘coating’ on the fries that seemed eerily similar to the Cavendish fries you get from Costco. Apparently my taste buds were bang on. The highlight of the fish was more of a lowlight. I wondered who may have been the supplier of the fillets. They were large, but the batter was greasy and overpowered the fish. I wouldn’t be surprised if one could get the same quality meal from a chain restaurant at half the price. On a bright note, the service was great, the waitress was very pleasant. Safe to say the tip was for the service and not the food. Our quest for a quality meal of ‘Real’ fish &...

We went on a double date here about a half hour before closing. I didn't realize it was so late, but the staff were so friendly to us. If they had been a little run down I would've totally understood. But these people went the extra mile and showed no indication that we were unwelcome. In fact, the owner of the shop came out, sat down beside us, and told us everything there is to know about the fish and chips.
I don't remember all the details, but he mentioned that they use a specific high-quality oil to fry the fish because a lower quality oil will make you feel lethargic after eating. We laughed because we had plans to play Badminton after eating but sure enough, none of us had any cramps or anything. They should advertise that their fish enhances athletic performance lol. The food was so nourishing and high quality.
Last thing, the fish is gigantic! All of us ordered a two-piece meal. I expected the standard size of fish. Y'know, like about the size of a sponge? No way, man. Each piece is a full fish-sized filet!
It was amazing. Loved it, start to finish. So much food without the gut bomb afterwards. Was not expecting it to be as much of a...
