Disappointing in both service and food. Ordered the nachos wings and mushroom caps. The latter was good but the nachos were microwaved. You could completely tell-cold in the middle inside the giant pile of tortillas and cheese and the cheese wasn't brown. Nacho chips weren't crispy at all. Don't let the size of it fool you but these were likely the worst nachos I've ever had in my entire life. They were barely touched because it was just gross. The mushroom caps. Yummy. Broiled well. The plate was piping hot and the mushrooms as well as the shrimp and crab inside was super tasty! Piled on top was a piece of garlic bread to go with it. Definitely yummy and probably the best dish there. And now for their famous wings. Quite honestly they should be famous for being just a touch above room temperature. Honestly they're nothing to write home about. I'd rather have Panagos. I had the honey garlic (the sauce tasted like it came out of a can). My friends ordered the hot, buffalo, and lemon pepper. They all came out at approximately room temperature. How disappointing. And now doe the service. This was probably the icing on top of a very badly made cake. Our server came around and "memorized" all our orders. Note they tjat was in quotation makes because she came back to have us repeat or. When we tried to correct her, her exact words were "no. Look at me. You ordered a...(listed off the order)." So of course she missed one of the orders of wings. Isn't this what paper was made for? When this was brought up to her, she laughed. Yes. She laughed. And then stayed "oh my gosh my brain couldn't handle all that. They don't take long to make." Not even an apology. My friend also didn't get the glass of water she asked for. Oh and she only came back to check on us and ask how the food was near the end of our meal. I ultimately got up myself, grabbed a glass, as well as a pitcher of water to pour for everyone because she couldn't be bothered to come back.
Perhaps I should have asked for a tip from my fellow diners since I ultimately had to do her job.
Top rated for wings? Nope. But definitely top of the list for one of the worst dining...
Read moreFinally got to The Shady after the reopening. Menu remains the same but the result was disappointing. My favourite has always been their clubhouse sandwich. They had the one of the best I have tried in the region. Bread was toasted crispy, nicely sliced turkey, good slices of tomatoe & lettuce. All the requisite items. And along with this was a healthy portion of fries or whatever your preferred side choice. When we stopped by a couple of weeks ago we naturally ordered our regular clubhouse on multi-grain. Only one style of bread available now we are told. Fine, just make it crispy. And coffee please. When the sandwich arrived it was served on a bun that was barely warm. Somewhere there was tomatoe. The usual sliced poultry was instead just a chunk of breast meat. The sides were good but the portions had been severly reduced in size. And our coffee had not been served yet. Our server took it back to the kitchen to do something with the bun. My friend suggested that we simply leave. It did not look too promising. However we decided to brave it out. When the sandwiches returned the bread was now warm. We had received our coffees. It was not what I would call a clubhouse. It was simply poultry on a bun now. And not too flavourful. They missed the entire concept of the sandwich. While the fries were tasty, the $1.00 charge for a tablespoon of mayo was a little extravagant. I do not like ketchup & this is the first time I have been charged for this. I do not see...
Read moreSat in the inside-outside deck area on a hot summer day but there was a nice breeze blowing through. We'd tried other places first driving through Squamish looking for dinner prime time 7pm on a public holiday but were all full with long waits but Shady seated our 9 immediately.
Good beer selection on tap, including Guinness (which was a decent pour) and plenty more craft bottles. Group mostly had burgers but I fancied something hearty so after my initial disappointment at the (from scratch the menu says) lasagne being sold out I cautiously ordered the Tikka Massala; something of a surprise to see on a menu here instead of the abominable butter chicken.
Sceptical of getting a curry in a pub, in Canada, I was pleasantly surprised. It was a dry preparation, with good flavors and a gentle zing which would usually be hot by Canadian standards. Don't know if it was a home made sauce, but after chewing on a couple cardamom pods I was at least convinced of decent ingredients and probably didn't come out of a bag.The accompanying naan was over cooked instead of warmed so was crispy when trying to eat it. High chicken quantity and other veggies (peppers mostly) too.
Overall experience exceeded my "burgers wings and lager" spot expectations. Would definitely visit again with a similar group as there is something for everyone and atmosphere is...
