Welcome to 2023. A year in which the “restaurant” industry has been infiltrated by shills, crooks, and grifters of all sorts. In an effort to be original, dining establishments slowly destroy their menu with meals that are as unappealing as they are expensive. Service is slow and unenthused. Prices rise and quality plummets. Amidst this rot and darkness, is there anyone we can rely on? Who can we trust to deliver an authentic and traditional dining experience which puts the values of family, food, and comfort in the forefront?
Allow me to introduce you to Gentleman Jim.
Though it is located in the forgettable town of Summerside, Mr Jim’s is a deeply memorable restaurant. To the uncultured, Mr. Jim’s food may seem “derivative” or “plain.” However, his menu is in fact a stroke of genius. The menu items are at once tantalizing and familiar, without attempting to “reinvent the wheel”. Indeed, Mr Jim has poured 100% effort into every aspect of his diner. The service, ambience, and food elegantly dovetail to create an experience which transcends description. However, behind this smooth facade, the hardworking men and women of gentleman Jim’s are labouring tirelessly to uphold the values which their restaurant represents.
Though his eyesight may be obscured by a snazzy eyepatch, Mr Jim has a clear vision for what a diner should be, and he brings it to fruition day after day....
Read moreThe food was very unappetizing and over priced for the portions. All of our food just screamed "we don't care". All of it seemed to be the cheapest possible ingredients either frozen, or not made ready to order and I can only assume they used their microwave for the majority of the cooking.
We had the cheesy garlic bread to start and for $8.00 we got 4 pieces of bread with some mozzarella cheese. The bread barely even had any garlic flavour to it, and worst of all wasn't even toasted it was discusting, mushy, wet bread and It felt like it was microwaved. The fries were just frozen fries from a store and cheep ones too. They also, obviously had been sitting out a while and then were heated up for our meal. I had a burger which was unseasoned meat sloppily pressed between to buns with some toppings thrown on top, it had very little flavour and most of the elements did not seem fresh. My wife had the seafood chowder, the broth had good flavour but the shrimp was like chewing on a tire.
Between two drinks, the terrible cheesy bread, a single kids item and two meals it came to over $60, all for some extremely disappointing food. I have honestly had better food...
Read moreVery disappointed. It's rare I post a 1 star review for a restaurant but I haven't had a worse dining experience in my entire life. I could get into the step by step aspects of how the dinner went downhill but I'll keep it to a few issues.
When the filet reached the table it looked pathetic and I'm not sure if it would have passed as a filet in any other place that touted being a steak restaurant The filet was well done and it was ordered medium rare The server found this out and said she'd fix it and disappeared instead of seeing how the rest of the meals were While she was gone, we discovered the salmon was way overdone She eventually comes back with the new "filet" and gives us the bill I know the back of the house can mess up. I get it but then the server should make things up on the front end. However, the attitude that we got from her, while being charged the full amount of our bill for a horrible experience was outrageous. Like we inconvenienced her for the mess up.
I will never...
