This was one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve ever had, especially being pregnant. I ordered falafel, and the girl who made it clearly knew it was burnt—I even heard her tell her coworker in Hindi/Punjabi, “jal gya” (which means “it’s burnt”). The fryer timer had been beeping, and she forgot to take it out on time. I completely understand mistakes happen—I’ve worked in a Greek restaurant for 5 years, and I know how easy it is to miss the fryer when multitasking.
What shocked me was not the mistake itself, but how it was handled. Instead of simply apologizing and making a fresh order (which takes barely two minutes), her coworker—who seemed more senior—stepped in and tried to convince me that if they fried it less, it would be undercooked. I had just heard them admit it was burnt, yet they were still trying to convince me otherwise. I told them very clearly that I’m pregnant and cannot eat burnt food.
Rather than doing the right thing, she gave me one undercooked falafel piece to “prove her point,” essentially forcing me to choose between burnt or raw food. Meanwhile, the other girl smirked as if the situation had been “handled smartly,” and went back to her closing duties—saving four burnt falafels instead of valuing a customer’s health.
I left feeling tricked, disrespected, and deeply hurt. Food service is not just about cooking—it’s about care, honesty, and humanity. What upset me the most was that even after telling them I was pregnant, they still chose to cut corners instead of showing compassion.
It takes only a couple of minutes to make fresh food, but they chose not to. That’s not just bad customer service—it’s careless and unsafe. I truly hope management takes this seriously so no other customer has to feel the way I did. Unfortunately, after this experience, I will never...
Read moreTonight was the final straw for us. First they get rid of the garlic paste (we loved the garlic paste and no it’s not the same as the sauce) but we dealt with it because we loved everything else. We have eaten here many many times since this location opened and the food was always fresh, delicious and always looked appetizing. We’ve never even so much as considered finding an alternative closer to home however, tonight’s visit has changed all that for us and we will now be looking for our new favourite donair restaurant.
There was no lettuce, but they did offer cabbage as a replacement (romaine instead of iceberg maybe… but cabbage?) The lamb is no longer shaved off a rotisserie but rather scooped out of a metal container that somewhat resembled crumbled up ground beef maybe? (it looked nothing like the picture on the menu). Then there’s the french fries…who wraps french fries in an aluminum foil bag? Do they not know what happens when you put hot crispy french fries in an aluminum foil bag to steam? That’s right… you get soggy french fries! Who wants soggy fries? So long Donair Dude! Sorry to have to cut it short like this but it was good while...
Read moreOrdering process is horrible. I got three plates and each time the lady asked if we want cheese so we say yes. The time to pay, and the bill seems higher. Finally truth come out that there is an upcharge for cheese. Then you should say it upfront!
Secondly, the don't make their lamb fresh, it comes in prepackaged bags. Gross. So I switched to chicken which then they tell me is actually pre-frozen too!
That is enough, I expect fresh chicken from a donair shop.
Also... I can't stand the lid which is heated so you can't remove it without ripping it. What the lady did after is horrible. She just tossed it into the bags so the sauce and everything gets mixed together. When I opened it, too much sauce stuck to lid. If only they took an extra few seconds to place it properly, it would have been much better.
I know they are likely minimum wage folks working there, but quality in service(especially in bagging) comes from the very top in how they train people.
I will not be...
