The inside of the pub has that classic feel, with wood paneling, old light fixtures and that sort of thing. I love places like that. At the same time, they have all the standard modern pub trappings like TVs, a WiFi jukebox and gambling. We went for dinner and a beer. The place was moderately busy with what looked to us like a lot of regulars. Most everyone there was middle aged or a little older, so we (in our 20s) did stick out a bit but we were not uncomfortable. Our server was an older lady, warned us away from the pasta night for some reason but was perhaps just trying to help us out. She was quirky, upbeat and helpful.
Food was what I would call decent, accompanied by a little nod as if I'm a little impressed. Better than good but not quite great. The shepherd's pie was a lot like homemade, down to the frozen mixed veggies inside. The addition of onions and celery as well as their spices and gravy made it decent. I've had a slight stomach bug for a few days which impacted how much I ate. I don't think I would have found it better than it was, but it may have affected my opinion. For $10 with a side salad and garlic bread, not bad! My girlfriend had a big salad with crispy chicken strips on top and the house dressing. She couldn't finish it after eating all the chicken, but she liked it and we both agreed that we would eat there again. Beer must have been a bit expensive as the bill came out to $40 for two meals and two beers. Maybe a little on the expensive side as I've been to pubs in the area that I could get out of with a $35 or $30 bill when having beer. Another particularly well-known local pub will remain our favourite.
I don't think star ratings are the greatest thing, so I'll say this: if you're in the neighbourhood sometime or you like trying new places, I would give this place a go. I'd have to visit more than once to make more of a recommendation, but maybe I...
Read moreI recently visited Jolly Mac’s Pub & Liquor Store in Surrey, and I have to say it quickly became one of my favorite local spots. From the moment I walked in, the place felt inviting and comfortable, with a warm, neighborhood atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. The combination of a classic pub with an attached liquor store makes it very convenient, and I liked how accessible and easy it was to find parking. The staff stood out immediately. They were friendly, approachable, and genuinely attentive. I noticed that they greeted many customers by name, which shows how much of a community vibe this place has. During my visit, the server checked on my table several times without being overbearing, which made me feel well taken care of. The food was exactly what I hoped for in a pub—hearty, satisfying, and delicious. I tried the wings, which were crispy and full of flavor, and I could easily see why so many people recommend them. On another occasion, I had the beef dip with yam fries, and it was excellent. The menu offers a wide variety of choices, from burgers to fish and chips, and everything I tried was prepared well and served hot. Of course, like any busy pub, it can get crowded on game nights, and service may slow down a little when it’s packed. But honestly, the lively atmosphere is part of the charm. Overall, Jolly Mac’s delivers exactly what I want from a neighborhood pub: great food, cold drinks, fair prices, and a welcoming team. It’s a place I’ll definitely return to, whether for wing night, to catch a game, or just to relax...
Read moreI went to support my local bar, and there was an older lady I think she was the bartender. We ordered a pitcher of beer and sat at the table. We took a sip of the beer and it tasted flat. I went up to the bar and asked the old lady bartender if I could get a new one because this one doesn’t taste right and seems flat.i said maybe it’s flat or the beer is finishing. And then so rudely she looks at the guy next to me and goes. Is your beer flat and proceeds to say why are you complaining? What’s your problem? I was so taken back by this encounter that I just left quietly, but everyone around her that was working had to come up to me and apologize and said that is no way to talk to a customer and said you were so calm and polite. All she had to do was switch out the beer but instead she started yelling and saying and making faces saying you are complaining what do you want? What do you want then? On Offense, but I think it’s time for...
