I thought I would give this restaurant a try so I gave them a call and I asked if there was any discount if I picked up a takeout order for four. Other restaurants I have gone to before do this. The lady on the phone said yes, 10%. I went ahead with my order and then headed to King Do. When I arrived there was a big sign by the front door saying 10% off for pickup. When I met the lady at the till she asked how I'd like to pay and I said debit and mentioned the discount. Only then did she say the discount was for CASH ONLY. All I could say was I wish I had known that ahead of time so I could have stopped at an ATM. Also the sign out front did not mention the 10% pickup was for cash only. I didn't argue the point further and paid and asked if I could have some packets of hot sauce included in the order. She said yes and I sat and waited for my order. The restaurant was not busy at all because it was only about 4 PM. The cook came out with the bag of food and gave it to me directly. When I got home there was no hot sauce in the bag and overall the food was good but average and the portion size was acceptable. What i didn't like about the food was that for a place that calls itself a seafood restaurant you would expect them to de-vein the prawns, but they did not do that, and I find that kind of gross. Also the honey chicken was strips of deep fried chicken with so much plain, thick honey sauce on it I did not find it enjoyable. So overall I would give King Do three strikes on my first visit because of the cash only surprise about the 10% discount, forgetting about the hot sauce that I asked for on a quiet afternoon, and the laziness about not de-veining the prawns. But I will give them another chance because, frankly, in my opinion they don't have much competition in the area, but I will adjust my order to not include shellfish, I will bring cash and ask for the hot sauce only before I leave...
Read moreUnfortunately, we had a very poor dinner experience at King Do compared to our last visit during dim sum.
First of all, when we arrived, there were only about 3 tables. It was not busy yet when we arrived at 6:30, and we placed our order shortly for a set menu, which a waitress had provided us menus for. After about 20 mins or so, the restaurant started filling up, and another waitress approached us to ask for our order. According to her, our order was not in, and when we told her what we had ordered, she then told us the Peking duck on the set menu was not available because it was too busy.
Okay… so we put in a different order which included: cold dish platter Fish maw soup Lobster sticky rice Dau mui
After about an hour, we received our fish maw soup and cold dish platter. Then we were told they can’t make the lobster sticky rice. At this point, we then decided to order a fried rice dish instead.
By 8:00, we had not received any more dishes and decided to cancel the dau mui. By 8:20, we could not wait anymore seeing that everyone else around the restaurant was not getting their food as well. We then decided to also cancel the fried rice and leave.
When we canceled, the waitress then told us they ran out of those dishes as well.
Clearly, this restaurant is very poorly run if on a Friday night during Lunar New Year's weekend they are not prepared or have ingredients for fried rice.
I also want to mention that despite saying Peking duck was not available, we saw that they did end up serving it to another table.
Overall, I would not recommend going to this restaurant on a weekend or holiday, as the waitress may give you a bunch of excuses why a dish is not available and you may have the chance of leaving without being able to get some...
Read moreI'll be ABSOLUTELY HONEST ABOUT THIS PLACE. This is a new place and I understand that. My parents have known the manager of this restaurant for many years after communicating with him from a different restaurant and I have eaten here before a few times. The food is actually good and the atmosphere of the restaurant is in pretty good conditions. But thats not the reason why I hate this place now. For the first time I have just ordered delivery from them. My mother who speaks a bit of Cantonese was ordering the food. The first time I called them they didn't pick up for a while (2 mins) and the second time I did they immediately picked up and didn't give an introduction or anything. Then I asked her about information on delivery and my mother started placing the order. I told her to speak in Cantonese because they were struggling to communicate with each other in English. And I was absolutely appalled by the lady's behaviour. It is clear in my mind that this is not the way to treat a customer. As she started ordering it was noticeable she was struggling to find the right words to speak as she has not spoken the language in a long time.. BUT THE LADY laughs at my mother's mistakes and corrects her in such a rude way. She mistaked beef and seafood and it was just appalling. After she starts discussing with others and leaves the phone on which i believe I heard other rude things. She then immediately leaves the phone on after getting the order when my mother had another question and was practically yelling at the phone to get her attention. This is no way a employee should treat their customer even if it's on the phone. Please fix this problem. I am not gonna...
