August 3/24 A restaurant I go to every time I am in Swift Current. Because I grew up in Gull Lake, it was a go-to back in the day, almost every time we visited Swift Current. This is going back more than 50 years now. Obviously we enjoyed it, or we wouldn't have continued to go back. We have a girl's weekend once a year now, and it was a place we went to every time we were in town. We were greeted quickly, and taken to a booth up top, last booth at the very back, closest to the washrooms/kitchen. The server brought us waters, and came back soon afterwards to get our order. The coffee and pop came quickly, but the drink my daughter ordered (which was in the menu) did not. The waitress told her she couldn't find the bartender to make the drink, and then after a long period of time, she came back and apologized saying they couldn't find this certain kind of vodka that the drink required. My daughter then ordered a different drink, (which was on the feature table topper), and was made incorrectly, missing one of the ingredients that was listed on the table topper. My daughter felt bad complaining, so she just drank it. - please note, none of this was the server's fault... Our food came fairly fast. I ordered a mozza mushrooms burger with fries. I immediately noticed grease on my plate beside the burger. The mushrooms were oozing in whatever they were cooked in, and the bun was disgustingly soggy. When I went to cut the burger in half, so much more grease came out, absolutely gross. Then after I cut my burger in half, I discovered there was a bit of pink in it. I'm not one to freak out about that, and at first there wasn't much, so I ate part of it. As I got closer to the middle, the hamburger patty was cold, and half red. I did not say anything because I was full anyhow. The fries were excellent though! The gravy was terrible, served in a tiny plastic ramikin, it was lumpy, and had no taste. If I could rate my meal, it would be a zero, not a 1 which is the lowest option. My daughter ordered a pizza (she had them before and loved them) so she was looking forward to having it. She asked the server for a "little bit" of extra sauce. The pizza was served with so much sauce, it was oozing on the plate as she took a piece. It was terrible. Apparently they don't know what a little bit means. She did not complain about this either. My sister had a pizza as well, she didn't say anything about it being really good or really terrible, so I am thinking it was just ok. Note: during this time, the server had come back and filled my pop, and brought coffee. She also asked if everything was alright, (as I said we did not complain), so we said yes. After we were finished, the owner came over and asked how it was. We said it was good (by this time we could tell he was a jerk, and not nice to his servers, we didn't want to get her into trouble because she was awesome, so again we said nothing). Being from out of town, paying for a hotel and food, eating out is definitely the most expensive part of the trip. My sister had said something like that, not meaning his restaurant but just in general, and he went off on her. He angrily (and with a raised voice) said he hoped she wasn't talking about his place, that his prices were very competitive. He went on and on. As I said earlier, we were up top, so the stairs to go down were right there. He was still talking in a raised voice as he walked backwards down the stairs. The three of us just started at each other for a second, like what the hell was that? And since when do owners talk to their patrons like that? A terrible experience. I hope the owner reads this.. I know you probably don't care, but if one person reads this, and decides against going to your establishment, then posting this was worth it. You were terrible to us, and you should be embarrassed. You are not the only...

••• “ It was this experience at this restaurant that solidified our family’s decision to make more of an effort to seek out locally owned and operated non-franchise restaurants on our travels.”•••

I wish I had a photo of my meal to accompany this review, but it was well enjoyed before I even thought of the idea of snapping a picture (it was the salmon skewers, by the way).

My family and I (myself, my husband and two young children - 2 & 6), stumbled across Akropol while in Swift for a summer getaway tour of SW Saskatchewan.

My husband turned to trusty Uncle Google to search for restaurants in the city. Rated #1 for restaurants in the city, we decided to go. Children in tow, we were greeted warmly, and seated quickly.

The friendliness didn’t just begin and end at the staff, though. Other patrons were quick to notice my 2yo daughter and giggled and played little games with her. One staff member even went as far to “disappear” and “reappear” behind a partition wall for a great hide and seek game, while she cleaned tables and chairs behind it.

When our food arrived, my husband and daughter (2) shared pizza, my son (6) had chicken strips, and I had the salmon skewers.

Everything was amazing. A man - I believe he may have been the owner - stopped by our table, chatted with us and the kids, and told them before we left he had something special for them. So as we were leaving, he hadn’t returned, and my son asked about the treat (because six year olds never forget promised treats). We just gently suggested that the gentleman was maybe busy with other tables but we would pick up a treat somewhere else if he’d like. I think the hostess overheard, because as we were shuffling out the door she asked if they had gotten their treat yet, my son turned around so quickly, just as she was pulling out a box of Ring Pops, and something else. So the kids were able to pick out their own Ring Pops and take them back to the hotel.

It was this experience at this restaurant that solidified our family’s decision to make more of an effort to seek out locally owned and operated non-franchise restaurants on our travels. We love our local restaurants in our area, and for many years while traveling we opted for franchise restaurants because they were a “safe” option.

I am so happy we stumbled into Akropol. We cannot wait to return to Swift to dine...

Been something of a regular here the last few years- I come in and wait around every time I get a haircut just up the block at Central Ave Cuts (I have motion sickness so driving around is problematic for me, Akropol is conveniently located for me to walk to and wait at while my family goes shopping), usually get a Ginger Ale and something light to go with it. I've always enjoyed the service, the food, and the atmosphere- the staff really couldn't be more kind and accomodating. This time, unfortunately, I wasn't really able to get my usual; Someone else was going to bring the money for the haircut but forgot to, so I just spent my lunch money there and went to Akropol to wait. The staff was very accomodating of my situation- they gave me some water and let me wait around at one of the tables in the lounge, and later someone came over with a Ginger Ale and offered some soup on the house. I guess they remembered me from previous occasions I showed up. I didn't feel comfortable accepting the soup, but they'd already got the Ginger Ale so I had that and later left a tip with what little change I still had on me. I really appreciate the staff's generosity and I think I might bring a little extra next time I...

Amazing people amazing food. We found this place by looking for a place for steak. We walked into a nice clean restaurant, we were seated right away and ordered our food. I had ordered the garden salad as a start with house dressing, this dressing was delicious. The steak dinner I ordered came hot and actually still sizzling, was cooked to perfection. The twice baked potato was so delicious, it just melted in your mouth. We also ordered the escargot which was cheesy and also tasted so good. The rhubarb crumble with some vanilla ice cream was so amazing I made sure to finish it. It was a perfect mixture of tart and sweet. This place is a must visit when in Swift Current.

The ambience inside was beautiful. Lady taking order and serving was simply the best. The owner, John came by multiple times to ensure food was good and we were having a good time. I honestly has one of the best experiences I've had at any restaurants! Did I mention the soup, souvlaki, salad, fish, fries were all great too!? The server even gave my daughter free soup, ice cream and a candy on the way out! I was blown away. So glad we decided to make the stop. We will definitely stop by again if we come to Swift Current again!

I was happy to eat supper at this fine restaurant. I ordered Caesar salad, steak, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. I enjoyed the salad, the dressing was combined perfectly. I asked for medium-well-done steak, and I am pleased to report that it was cooked excellently. The potatoes were tasty with gravy on the side! I was too full to try a dessert item, maybe on my next trip to Swift Current? Big thanks to my server tonight, Joannie, for being attentive and friendly.
