MeiMei Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Swift Current

As Chinese food goes, Meimei's is OK. At this visit, I had the ginger beef, fried shrimp, egg rolls and rice. The ginger beef was ok. But, not very flavorful. By the time I had eaten most of the way around my plate, it was very apparent that pretty much everything I had was fried and had basically the same underlying flavor. Kind of bland with a hint of the other ingredients. The egg rolls were a bit better, but had a strong vinegar flavor that I didn't enjoy. Overall, it's mostly fried Chinese food. Likely all fried in the same grease. And kind of all tastes the same. In my experience, the food from Wongs, down the service road, has better flavor. A little more expensive, but better. MeiMei is a family friendly Chinese restaurant, with a surprizingly large selection of yummy food. At almost $14 a head, the buffet is a little pricey for a small city like Swift Current, but if you come early, it's worth it. There is a senior's discount if you go in the evening for supper. They don't cheap out on the buffet, and offer several delicious meat dishes to go with the usual rice and vegetables that you would expect on a Chinese buffet. The restaurant itself is a little dated, but it is clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. In my opinion, this restaurant has replaced Wong's as the best Chinese restaurant in town. I am in the city for a short business trip and this is my first visit. I am so impressed and so glad that I came here. Really good food, a very nice portion, and the food was presented so well. I had a combo plate to take away, and my only regret is that I am not here longer so that I could try more dishes. The vegetables were fresh and not overdone. The meat portions were succulent and tasty, not all bones or dried out. There is a large seating area with tables and booths, and they have a buffet during the day.
