Spoon & Bowl Bistro — Restaurant in Swift Current

If I could give more than 5 stars I would have!! These folks know FOOD! WOW! I was speaking at an event they catered and let me tell you, nothing short of amazing. Fresh rolls, pork bao, charcuterie, pizza, fries (with ketchup!), more charcuterie, rice, fried rice, chow mein, vermicelli, pork on a skewer, deep fried wings (might have been the best I've ever tried!), and ribs. Then there was desert. I took a video of it because I wanted a record of the best catered event EVER!

This wasn't a huge event either, with a lineup like that you'd think royalty was visiting or something. Nope, they just make amazing food and know how to cater properly. I mean the Iced Tea wasn't watered down!! EVERYONE waters down Iced Tea!

Because I was speaking I initially had a small plate full just to try a few things, I don't want to get gassy on stage! They went out of their way to put together a to-go plate (which was 3 plates wrapped up) for me to take back and share with my family. I was floored. The kindest, nicest people. You folks are simply wonderful.

We were traveling through to Calgary and thought this would hit our Vietnamese craving. However, this is nothing like your traditional vermicelli bowl. It was actually laughable with what they gave you. I’m not a big person and don’t require a lot but the container was half the size of the usual ones we get at the same price. All noodles, a light dusting of mixed vegetables (next to nothing) and two spring rolls that tasted exactly like the ones you buy at Costco. The kids meal I ordered was actually more substantial than the adult meals. This was incredibly disappointing and I’m shocked at the high rating of this place. The service and the atmosphere were fine, except the music was quite loud. The food however was underwhelming. There were 4 of us and my food arrived about 10 minutes before the other meals. I ordered the house specialty noodle bowl; all of the meat was overcooked, making it a challenge to cut and unpleasant to eat, there were 4 tiny shrimp that were likely frozen. The vegetables were fine but there were less noodles than I have had in previous Vietnamese restaurants. I didn’t finish my meal. My husband had some wings which he ate but they weren’t enjoyable.
