This was almost a generous 2 star review but we have a big problem here, I ordered the beef korma which was listed as $15.99 on their menu online (I have come back from later in the review to include the fact that I ordered it spicy, originally I called to order vindaloo which they don't make for some reason, and when she asked if I want the korma spicy I said "yes, Indian spicy not Cape Breton spicy" she said "okay, so extra spicy, like vindaloo spicy? " I said "yes, extra spicy") , 2 beef samosas, listed as $2.50 and the mango "smoothie" which was listed as $5, when they told me the total, $34? Okay, someone's math is wrong.. then Im told oh no, the prices aren't updated now it is $17.49, $3, $6, respectively, so okay, not a big deal, the world is a little mixed up right now financially no problem I'll pay extra for a luxury of eating restaurant takeout food, Indian food at that, which I am very pleasantly surprised to see in Cape Breton, whatever, still at my automatic start point of 5 stars, so I walk over to the restaurant, walk inside, nobody there, whatever all good Im not that picky, maybe they are super busy today, they come out she gives me the food, no complaints so far.
I get back to my office and open the bag only to find disappointment, I paid 34$ for 4 chunks of beef in oily tomato sauce, half a piece of fried pita bread, white rice and some beef wontons.
The korma, it was 4, 2cm cubes of fatty beef (which was not cooked offensively I might add) in oily tomato sauce, to be fair it did look and remind me of an attempt at making Korma but it is a "reimagining" of a dish very familiar to me, to put it nicely, and it was only maybe, 200 ml of sauce? For 17.49? Even with the inflated price of groceries right now this isn't more than a dollar worth of food. If the entire container had been beef Korma, it would be a discussion of wether it was a reasonable price or not. And for the record it was not spicy at all maybe maybe a 1/10 on the spice-o-meter, even for people who don't eat spicy food I suspect they would be underwhelmed.
Next, we will address the rice, they advertise that it's basmati, but, let's get real, most of the locals here wouldn't know calrose from arborio, if this was basmati I'd love to know the source because it really, honestly just looked like someone made uncle bens long grain and pinched a couple of them. (Familiar Indian flavour was present but it was a little greasy)
The naan, typically, naan is fluffy and bubbly and delicious, pulls apart easily but has a slight chew to it, this naan was literally fried pita bread, it was shocking, haha, seriously though I really find it hard to justify calling it naan at this point, it certainly wasn't made by hand, made to order, in a tandoori oven, not a chance, it was store bought pita bread fried, very strange, typically Indians take pride in their food and cooking and very rare that you find this treatment of one of the staples of Indian cuisine.
The beef samosas were essentially plain cooked ground beef in a wonton wrapper deep fried. Nothing special but in terms of bang for your buck, relatively better than the other items I guess, the mint coriander yogurt sauce was pretty bland too no real distinct flavour.
The mango lassi was pretty strange too, I only had a few in my life because I rarely would spend the money on it, but none I have had really tasted like this, it was almost powdery and very verry sweet, if you told me it was powder in yogurt I wouldn't be surprised.
Overall there's not much good to say, and plenty weird, incorrect stuff going on, maybe they figure they're in a market they can trick people into thinking this is just normal authentic Indian food but I assure you it is definitely a "unique interpretation" anywhere west of the causeway or east of the ocean you won't find Indian food like...
Read moreWe were visiting Sydney, searched on the internet for the desi food, found Mian’s restaurant with pretty good views on the google map. It was our first time we came to this restaurant. There were no customers in the restaurant except one gentleman waiting to grab his order, I guess. We asked the girl at reception for the dine-in possibility as we wanted to eat-in. She was positive and asked us to grab the table. She didn’t say nothing to us about the masks. Abruptly owner approached our table as we just seated there, and said, “you shouldn’t be entering the restaurant without wearing the masks. You should enter the restaurant door with the masks on as we have put the notice on the door”. He offered us free masks, too. I said that we saw the notice, 100% understand and agree to comply with, however, we wanted to dine-in that was why didn’t wear the masks as entered, explained our perception. But, we, in no way, were reluctant to give in. Despite his rude choice of words, up-to this time, it was okay with us. In spite of our willingness to abide by he kept on lecturing and started teaching us Nova Scotia’s rules on wearing the masks. At this point we deemed it’s enough and just walked out without saying even a word against him or the restaurant and decided not to eat there.
What went to our extreme shock which encouraged me to write this review, that he followed us out and creeped up on our car when we were about to leave, enraged at our walkout, just to say “you guys never come to my restaurant again, I was polite and you guys walked out”, to fulfill his revenge.
They might be giving good customer service to other people but it is something not for us for sure.
Worst experience among all the restaurants visited in Canada, so far.

Read moreI went to Mian for a take out and the food was complete disappointment. My order was Hyderabadi chicken biryani. Chicken tikka masala and butter naan. Hyderabad chicken biryani - the food was way off from what it should actually be. To put it in other words it was a chicken khichdi. The look of the food itself wasn’t appealing. Chicken tikka masala- it was an orange watery sauce and few pieces of chicken and few pieces of onions floating on it. Butter Naan- These Naan breads I expected it to be authentic Naan made in clay oven. Instead they are store brought bread most likely from Costco and which are not naan breads. Real disappointment in the name of Indian food and for the prices they are selling it’s a rip off to the local crowd. The food is not fit to be restaurant quality and moreover feels like it’s been made by a person who has no prior experience or who just started cooking for his own but somehow managed to find a job in...
