Review: Pho Du Vietnamese Bistro – 2/5
Pho Du struggles with identity and execution. The atmosphere was dull, with mismatched music and an off-balance table that risked tipping with any pressure. The vibe felt lifeless overall.
Service is minimal to non-existent. No menus at the table, no greeting or explanation upon entry, and no clarity on sold-out items. It seems to aim for a self-serve model but falls short, lacking the clarity and efficiency even basic fast-food chains provide.
The food was underwhelming. I ordered the #6 Bun/Vermicelli Deluxe. While the components were fresh, the dish missed the mark on flavor balance. The sauce was overly sweet and lacked depth, and the raw bean sprouts clashed with the overall profile. At the price point, I expected more refinement.
Spring rolls were a letdown. I was offered pork instead of the sold-out shrimp, only to find they were deep-fried—something not specified on the menu. They were bland, served with a decent but basic sweet and sour sauce.
In short, Pho Du seems unsure whether it wants to be a quick-service spot or a proper bistro. The lack of direction and polish in both service and food leaves much to be desired. Not a place...

The only reason I didn’t give a full 5 stars is because in edmonton, these guys aren’t the absolute best for pho. That’s reserved for Tau Bay downtown. That’s not to knock anything down, I just couldn’t justify 5 stars.
I ordered the perfect trifecta. Pho, salad rolls and fried spring rolls.
The pho was super clean tasting. Smaller in size than I’m used to. Chilli oil is not an option here. Beans sprouts were already added to the smaller bowl. I d have to say that the pho was pretty good.
The salad roll was okay, not excellent.
The fried spring rolls were crispy and light but not spectacular.
The restaurant serves cafeteria style where you order up from they bring it to you. I was surprised that the credit card machine did not ask for any tip. That was really surprising. I had to scrape some cash to top them after my meal. It was pretty...
Read moreThis is the best place in terms of the quality you get for the price you pay for. They charge $10 for a bowl of pho and $12 for a bowl of vermicelli which have to be the cheapest you can find in the city. The cheap price reflects mostly on the service as you order in front before getting a table, a lot of things are self served which I loved because it makes things very efficient for them, and I don't like waiting for a server to do simple tasks for me anyway.
This is not a place where you meet up with a friend to catch up. It is mainly just to eat your meal and get out. The quality you get for the price is very reasonable and I quite enjoyed my food (I have tried both their pho and vermicelli bowls). Obviously you can't expect their quality to be as good as the classic popular pho restaurants in the city, but for the price it will do! Another thing I would like to mention is you will get your food in no time! Maybe this is due to the small menu but I love how they...
