A SEAFOOD CATCH IN THUNDERBAY Joey's Seafood Restaurant in Thunder Bay is a hidden gem that's hard to find but absolutely worth discovering. It’s a family-run spot that's been serving the community for 25 years, managed by two brothers who are clearly passionate about great food.
I started my meal with the lobster bisque, which was outstanding. It had a rich, flavorful broth with visible pieces of lobster — a true testament to the kitchen's quality. The seafood texture was spot-on, and the blend of spices made every spoonful delightful.
For my main, I went for the Shrimp Feast, which turned out to be an excellent choice. While it typically comes with one type of shrimp, my server, Deb, graciously offered to let me try two. I opted for the breaded shrimp and the shrimp scampi. Both were delicious: the breaded shrimp had a satisfying crunch, while the scampi was tender, garlicky, and packed with flavor. The shrimp were smaller to medium-sized, but the taste more than made up for the size. The meal also came with a fresh, crisp salad that balanced the richness of the seafood perfectly. It also came with rice, and since they had run out of brown rice, they kindly let me try the rice pilaf, which was very nice — beautifully seasoned and well-balanced.
What made the experience even more memorable was the hospitality. Deb was attentive and personable throughout the meal. I also had the chance to chat with one of the owners, who even invited me into the kitchen to meet his brother, the chef. Their warmth and pride in their work were evident.
If you're looking for a laid-back, unpretentious spot with top-notch seafood, Joey's is the place. It’s not fancy, but the food is exceptional, the service is genuine, and the experience is well worth the visit. I’ll definitely be...
Read moreI normally love Joey's but I had an awful experience there because of a waitress named Uthara R. Her customer service was terrible, she was rude, didn't seem like she wanted to serve us at all or do her job. We didn't ask her for much while we were there, we just expected the very minimum, at least a smile on her face and a kind "hello" could have made the experience better. And we ordered a lot of expensive items off the menu, we weren't there just for something small. Yet she treated us like she didn't want us to be there and wanted us to leave. We asked her for the table at the booth because we usually feel more comfortable there and she said she couldnt do it because she already cleaned it. As if they don't clean between customers or something. I didn't mind that but her attitude the entire time we were there was unacceptable. While we were dining she didn't even come back to ask if we were okay, she only came back to try and nudge us to leave toward the end and to get us to pay. I truly believe this girl will make Joey's lose business. If she's ever there to serve us again I'd probably just walk out without...
