Was a patron with 3 of my friends for my 23rd Birthday recently. As usual, there was a 40 minute wait for the dining room, so we elected to sit in the lounge. We were seated right away adjacent one of the large screen Tv’s playing the hockey game (important later on). Timing of our waiter was impeccable, and he made sure to check whether the special drink I requested was actually available before ordering I for me (as he understood that I’ve had that issue before). This showed me that he cared for my dining experience and would take the time to make sure my order was correct. One of my friends was a little less familiar with the keg’s menu than the rest of us, and our waiter graciously and with great care explained and answered any of his questions. For the rest of us, he took our orders with impeccable confidence while commending our excellent choices; asking if, but not in any demanding way, whether we would like any upgrades that were avaliable. He politely asked if we would like some bread and butter as we waited for our appetizer, and the staff made sure we were well served with fresh bread until our appetizer arrived. The Calimari was excellent, my usual go-to appetizer. Nothing to write home about, but decent portion for the 4 of us. Once the meals were served, my 10 (or 8oz?) oz Fillet Mignon was a little lacking on the back on wrap. However the steak itself was impeccable, easily the best Fillet Mignon I’ve ever had. Good to a beautiful medium-medium-well, just like I like it, full of flavour. The sauce was... acceptable, not a fan of suave on my steaks unless it’s the original brown sauce. Instead I used the sauce for the peppers, and was delighted to find it masked the flavours I didn’t like in them. The main part of the meal for me is the Twice-baked potato! Not much to say here, recommended by my sister, and my personal favourite accompaniment, it was flavourful and delightful, and capped off an excellent meal. During the meal, the house had the hockey game on the nearby Tv, and as our waiter came by to check on us, he would stop for a moment and engage in some banter about the game. There was one particular scene where one player got absolutely ridden into the boards, and had to leave, and together, the 5 of us commented on the replay! Not only did our server make us feel welcome in the lounge, but he made us feel as not only guests, but good friends, talking about how his friends like certain teams and recounting stories about past “incidents”! Definitely an special experience for my special night!

**Kag Restaurant Review** Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kag Restaurant, and it was an extraordinary culinary experience from start to finish. Nestled in a charming part of town, Kag offers a delightful ambiance that immediately makes you feel welcome. **Ambiance:** The decor is modern yet cozy, with soft lighting and tasteful furnishings that create a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. The attention to detail in the interior design is evident, making it a perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a special occasion. **Service:** The staff at Kag are exceptional. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and attentive service. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations. The service was prompt without feeling rushed, and every effort was made to ensure we had a pleasant dining experience. **Food:** The star of the show at Kag is undoubtedly the food. The menu is a creative fusion of flavors, with each dish meticulously crafted and beautifully presented. We started with the Tuna Tartare, which was fresh and bursting with flavor. For the main course, I opted for the Braised Short Ribs, which were incredibly tender and accompanied by a rich, savory sauce. My companion chose the Pan-Seared Scallops, and they were cooked to perfection. The dessert menu is equally impressive; the Chocolate Fondant was a decadent way to end the meal. **Drinks:** The wine list is extensive and thoughtfully curated, offering a range of options to suit all palates. The cocktails are innovative and expertly mixed, making them a perfect complement to the meal. **Overall Experience:** Kag Restaurant exceeded all my expectations. The combination of exquisite food, impeccable service, and a delightful ambiance makes it a standout dining destination. Whether you're a foodie looking for your next culinary adventure or simply in search of a memorable dining experience, Kag is the place to go. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu. Highly recommended! ---

Had dinner at The Keg in Thunder Bay. My old fashioned was missing the cherry, not very good quality burboun and I felt it was very diluted but didnt want to spoil the vibe of the night at the very beginning. For starters, we ordered the mushrooms and calamari. The mushrooms—about five per plate—were rich, sharp, and indulgent with a creamy, cheesy topping. Calamari was crunchy and well-portioned, though the tentacle pieces were overly battered and clumped. For the main, I went with The Keg’s signature New York steak, which includes a complimentary salad and side. I added jumbo shrimp and blue cheese crumbles. The shrimps were excellent—large size and perfectly cooked. Steak came medium as requested. However, I asked to swap the salad for a soup (same price), but the manager declined, which felt unnecessarily rigid for a premium restaurant. At this price point, and with the a premium dish, a bit of flexibility should be a given. The steak and lobster dish was fine. Service was ok, however my coke was never refilled or asked if I want to refill. Also we felt rushed throughout the courses and it bcsme apparent near the two-hour mark—several prompts about dessert, splitting the bill, and whether we needed anything else came within a few minutes. Not ideal when the bill’s nearing $400. Hence my 4 stars (and I being kind here, I 'd give 3.5 but I wouldnt!). The food was standard as you would expect from The Keg quality. I had much superior service in other The Keg branches. I may return—but hopefully next time with a more accommodating approach and less pressure to vacate the table.

BE WARNED: IF YOU HAVE KEG GIFT CARDS THEY MAY NOT WORK!

After a special dinner tonight with my gf they had alot of trouble with my $30 gift card when it came time to pay. When I presented the gift cards to the server, his demeanor changed immediately. He then said in a condescending tone. "let's see if there is even any money on these cards". He then said he needed to go and scan them. After more than 10 minutes of waiting he finally returned and told me he needed to get the manager as one of the cards did not work.

I did show the server on the mobile Keg site there was a balance of $30 and he didn't need the manager. I told him we wanted to leave. He then asked me to stay until he can clear things up with the manager. After waiting more than 20 combined minutes to leave i didn't want wait around indefinitely while they tried to figure out why the gift card wouldn't work.

So we decided to get up and leave as I was not feeling well and needed to get home (I was having medical issues and needed to get home so I can take my meds). When we reached the car this is when the manager came running out and yelling at us in the parking lot implying I gave them a bogus gift card and I would have to pay the balance.

So I came back inside and by this time the staff and any other customers around now think I am a scam artist. Not cool at all! I then stood in front of the manager and keyed in the gift card into the Keg mobile. This is when he asked me if i had a problem in paying my bill, as if I couldn't afford to do so. How humiliating!

Then as I had claimed all along the balance showed $30! He then said he would honour it. Like he was doing me some kind of favor.

The special evening was not special once again at the Keg. Second time with brutal service there. We will definitely, never be back.

The manager did apologise, however after the confusion and panic on their end it was all rather ridiculous and poor and condescending service on their behalf.

The food was mediocre at best. The service was also mediocre at best before the gift card issue. This restaurant is too over rated and the price of the food isn't worth the money they charge!

They lack the abilities to provide exceptional service and food. The Keg may want to hire seasoned and expericned food service professionals to train others in the...
