This review is about the illegal practice of not displaying accurate prices on their menu board (drip pricing). I was here on Sunday and I ordered an Iced London Fog with Oat Milk. It's important to note that the menu says they can make their drinks iced and then lists the 10 or so drinks they offer, most of which cost $5.25. In addition, alternative milk is $0.75. Going off what the board says, my drink would be $6 plus tax and any tip I offer. The male server I ordered with, charged me the correct amount, however their POSM was acting up. The next server re-entered the order on the POSM, same amount, and again the machine did not work. Then the lady who seemed to be in-charge, rebooted the POSM, re-entered the amount, skipped over the tip and asked me to tap again. I did, however, I realized the amount I paid was $7.57, which was $0.20 more than what I was supposed to pay with a tip in the previous attempts. When I asked for the cost break down, the first two staff could not explain to me exactly why the cost was now different. Then the in-charge lady came back and said it was because I ordered an iced drink. And because "iced drinks are only offered seasonally," she has no space to notify customers that there is an additional cost for an iced drink. First, this is an interesting concept -- charge your customers for ice. Second, this is actually illegal. You cannot charge customers for something that is not explicit to them before hand. It's called drip pricing. The in charge lady asked me twice if I'd like a dollar back -- but made it seem like it was my fault for wanting to have paid the price that I expected to pay. It's not about it being $0.79 more -- it's about not knowing that I'm paying that amount (let alone paying for ice).
All this to say, beware of the service here. I'm not sure what motivated this absurd act -- I truly do not believe there is a different cost to iced drinks because if there were an $0.76 increase for a drink to be made iced, there was definitely enough space to write that on the board (in the same space where it says they can make iced drinks). It did not seem racially motivated, but it's either that, or they are practicing drip pricing, in which case, be EXTRA VIGILANT. The only other explanation is that they made a genuine mistake, which they then tried to cover up with a nonsensical reason, rather than owning up to it. At no point was I acting impatient or upset, so there was no reason not to own up...
Read moreThis is one of the BEST places in the Danforth or Toronto for pastries and pies and other treats. Their carrot cake muffins are moist and the icing is on point, their croissants are flaky and buttery. The scones- oh the scones, the cheddar ones are an extra special treat. The cakes are really nice and I also enjoy the special seasonal ones and the pastries they make for special occasions and they do really nice salted Carmel chocolate cookies. Oh- their breakfast sandwiches are Amazing 🤩 and totally worth the wait and price. I shake my head when people complain about the prices or increases, imagine the costs these owners have and the costs going up with their supply as well. When looking at some people who gave a poor rating, these people if you look further often rate a lot of places low or are bitter because they have nothing going on in their life or have a bitter heart. The staff have always been kind and helpful and I’ve seen some poorly behaved adults treating the staff rudely because God forbid they ran out of something. It costs nothing to be kind- nada- so when shopping in small businesses take into consideration the many challenges they have lived through in a pandemic. I lived in the Danforth for over 4 years and this place was one of my favourites, and whenever I’m anyplace nearby I try and stop in even though I’m not in the city. This place is worth the trip and you will love the food and the...
Read moreI love the dough shop! You get what you pay for, and it's not mass produced so it's fresh and baked with locally sourced ingredients. The staff have always been warm and helpful, and I enjoy giving my hard earned money to mom and pop shops as opposed to chain central. I feel the need to call out 2 reviewers in particular who if you look up their profile leave poor to negative ratings on various other places. Perhaps using multiple accounts to trash a hard working place like the dough shop. So Jack Mac, Zack George, Dee One. I feel these three users are being opportunistic and perhaps they have a business that competes or tries to compete and their businesses fail. The dough shop is a fair price, as this isn't a Tom Hortons, and they do customer orders and have local treats and goodies. I have only seen good service and experienced fresh and quality food. Again people.. You get what you pay for. Love their carrot cakes slices, fresh pastries and food to go. I will always shop and...
