As a Filipino who does not know how to cook or bake Filipino foods, I was very excited about Global Goodie opportunity with Yelp.
Although there's no parking at the bakery, there are residential streets nearby that you can easily park for free. For such a small location, I was impressed with how stocked it was with a variety of goodies! Of course there's the bakery with donuts and cakes that you can order. But they also have shelves with delicious Filipino foods such as dried fish snacks, fresh baked ube pandesal, povlorone, cookies and more. They have a freezer where you can buy ube ice cream, longanisa etc, and also a fridge that has treats like ube ensaymada and pastillias.
The staff were so friendly, and while they were preparing my donuts I browsed the other goodies and stocked up on some of my favourite Filipino foods. The ube pandesal looked so good I couldn't help but eat one on my way home from FK Dulce Bakery. It was probably the most moist, delicious ube pandesal I have ever had. They didn't last long!
The donuts were delicious it was hard to pick just one. I loved that the leche flan actually had a little slide of flan in the donut and wasn't just leche flan flavoured. It was definitely on the sweeter side, so good to share. The ube macapuno had the delicious sweet flavour of ube. This was probably my favourite. To balance the sweetness, the bavarian cream and matcha were a little less sweet. All of them were really good. They were fluffy and not too heavy. My partner and I shared all 4 over the course of 2 days. Even on day 2 they were still fresh and delicious tasting.
I can't wait to come back to enjoy more Filipino treats. My birthday is coming up and I want an ube...
Read moreThere is no shortage of artisanal doughnut shops in North York, but FK Dulce Bakery's nod to Filipino flavours certainly provides a unique take on these deep fried sweets. This is best showcased in their leche flan ($3.50) doughnut, the yeasty soft pastry wrapped around a thick slab of eggy flan and drizzled with a sticky caramel glaze that is so indulgent. It's a rich dessert that was oh so satisfying and unique - the combination of custard and pastry was fantastic and already makes me yearn for more.
My first bite into the jammy ube ($2.99) was interesting and unexpected. I'm not sure I liked the feeling of the purple yam filling flooding onto the roof of my mouth and wished it was captured as a jelly centre similar to the Bavarian doughnut - it's messy so take extra care if ever eating the treat while wearing white. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the added coconut with the yam, which created an almost black sesame essence and the filling was the perfect sweetness.
It's not just the flavours that make FK Dulce tasty, the dough for the pastry was great having a cakey yet light consistency. Take the matcha white chocolate ($2.25), the doughnut appears like a honey dip except glazed with melted white chocolate and matcha powder. Yet, when you bite into it, the dough doesn't seem hollow and dry (like your typical honey dip), instead there's a chewiness to it, almost like it incorporates a touch of mochi without becoming dense.
The Bavarian cream ($2.50) was probably the least Filipino influenced, but still fantastic, especially for those who appreciates a Boston cream. I'd say the Bavarian is more custard than cream, silky and thick and was my husband's favourite...

I tried the Leche Flan and wow what an amazing donut. This is probably my favourite Filipino dessert and combining the egg custard with a caramel donut is genius. Beautifully crafted donut.
The other donuts also look spectacular but of course I will need to try them later. Pure sugar rush and will definitely come back and try their other donuts.
The shop is also sells some imported Filipino grocery items like pancit canton, corned beef, chicharron, longanisa, marinated bangus, Mango ice cream, etc. There is also refrigerated section for grab and go drinks, slices of cake, cheesy ensaymada, and other snack items.
They also serve coffee, and bubble tea as well. Overall great looking shop, great donut and cake selection. Come check them out if you need some desserts for a special occasion or to satisfy your sweet tooth. Thank you FK Dulce Bakery and Yelp toronto for organizing these...
