I saw this restaurant on someone's Instagram page and wanted to check it out. I'm about to give birth in less than 3 weeks so trying to squeeze in as many restaurants as I can. My friend and I had reservations on a Wedesday night for 5:45pm. When you book you need to put in a deposit in case you don't show up of $25 pp on a credit card.
We got seated promptly, the atmosphere is very modern and clean. The service here must've improved greatly as it was impeccable. My water glass must've been topped up at least 10 times due to the fact of the glass being short. Our waiter recommended at least 3 dishes each. They also gave us new plates in between courses and wiped off any crumbs from our table which was nice.
We ordered the Hokkaido Scallop crudo Confit duck basteeya Shrimp toast Picanha steak Matcha cream puff And sticky toffee
My favourite of the night would have to be the duck basteeya! I loved the crispy exterior and the flavourful filling. The shrimp toast had a good amount of shrimp paste in the middle and was delicious. Scallop crudo was flavourful and refreshing although I wish there were more Scallop for the price range. I was a little disappointed in the steak though. It felt a little dry for me and a little tough. The desserts made up for it though. I loved the mix of the matcha filling and concord grape jelly, the matcha wasn't bitter and didn't overtake the jelly, I do wish the puff was a little crispy or had some element of crunch to it. I loved their version of the sticky toffee dessert, the yogurt Chantilly really help cut the sweetness of the dessert and I loved the toasty flavour of the toasted rice which also gave a great crunch to the dessert.
The table next to us got the duck and said it was delicious so I'll have to try that next time. Their Smashed potatoes and ricotta agnolotti also looked amazing and big portions too!
Would I come back? Absolutely! I'd love to try out the other dishes and my friend thoroughly enjoyed the food as well and she is a hard...
Read moreChose this for my birthday dinner with my sweetheart and in-laws. The space and experience really appeals to people of all ilks and ages. The space is cool and stark though candles and wonderful staff add a generous dose of warmth. We enjoyed everything we ordered and amongst four adults we polished 11 of the small plates, including a dessert we split. And we were all very satisfied. A note on the wine, my bon-vivant-will-travel-for-food-and-wine family wasn’t thrilled with the wine list in terms of varietals/price points for bottles, meaning they wished they had more options; we opted to enjoy by the glass/cocktails. My FIL asked if his Pinot was a fresh bottle and they confirmed it was open the night before (which is fine and perfectly acceptable!), and they offered to replace his glass, but he declined and was happy to finish (he was more curious and didn’t position as a complaint). I would be curious to see what’s on rotation the next visit. I get the impression they cycle new bottles in with some frequency. I’m not sure if it’s on account of knowing it was a celebratory meal, the question about the Pinot, or just a surprise and delight gesture… but they comped our dessert and delivered with a candle - that felt low key extra special. We enjoyed our evening in the dining room, though the patio seemed cozy and the chic bar accommodated guests with ample room to enjoy. I would recommend Henry’s for a variety of occasions (and non-occasions). I could see myself walking by at the end of the day and popping into the bar for a glass of wine and what one of the lovely staffers called “chic poutine” (a potato dish with veg demi-glace and cheese). This spot has the unique ability to be “just right” and “not too much” of anything - which is really special and draws a unique and loyal...
Read moreChicken liver pate: very good layers of the taste. The chicken liver is perfectly salted. with the cranberry add the touch of sweetness. The bread underneath is perfect toasted.
Waited 42 mins for our second course (while the table next to us ordered after us and got their forth course)
Shrimp toaste: after waited 42 mins. I’m too hungry, but surprising still find this dish taste sooo bad. The toast has not so much favor. Have to use the dip to make it tastable. The crust is extremely hard. (If I’m not that hungry, don’t think I’ll finish it all) salad: any salad from anywhere can be better than this. Can’t believe this is a Michelin guide quality. Green beans: very spicy. I love it. My partner couldn’t eat it cuz too spicy. Potato pave: potatoes are very good. The sauce is a bit sour for me. Steak: before I ordered, I ask how much onze is the steak for one tasting menu. the waitress said 6 onze. Look at the picture. This is not a 12 onze for two people at all.
4,5,6 are coming in the same time that a table can barely fit. While waiting 42 mins for second dish and all three dishes would come in together to stuff you. This is a very horrible pace for dinner.
Dulce de leche flan: had one bite and I’m done.
Service: she would be here before you finish the last sip of your drink. But if you want a piece of lemon. Good luck. Also, never asked us how was the food. (Don’t think the restaurant care)
Nice place, little costumers. Ya. It’s pretty empty, but they could still mess up the order try to give us...
