Hungry Jack's is an excellent local establishment that I think deserves a lot more love and attention.
Although there are many amazing and quality restaurants in the area, there are surprisingly few local casual places where you can just sit down and relax, either alone with friends, and have a nice drink and a bite to eat and not have it break the bank or feel overly formal.
The place itself is cute and well-decorated, and has a terrific patio that is often quiet at lunchtime, but I've seen it getting busier and busier at nighttime; likely because word of mouth is spreading in the community that Hungry Jack's is a great local hangout and eatery.
Although nothing really stands out about the drinks, all of what you would expect to see is available, and competitively priced. If you just want to come by for a drink, I think you'll find Hungry Jack's provides a great atmosphere for that. While not as cheap as, say, Wise Guys or Triple Tree, at the very least they do not charge the exorbitant prices that other establishments in the neighbourhood charge for drinks. When times are tough an the economy is not great, it's just not feasible for people except the super-rich to pay $12.00 for a single beer or glass of wine.
The real highlight in my opinion is the food. Hungry Jack's offers no-nonsense, hearty, delicious dishes. And the prices are so reasonable, you can come for lunch or dinner regularly and, again, not break the bank.
I highly recommend: chicken souvlaki, the pita wraps and the chicken parmesan sandwich.
I have not yet tried any of their pasta dishes, but I have seen other people order them, and they all look delicious.
The owners and servers are extremely hospitable and friendly. They make you feel at home, and like you're a part of their family.
As I'm sure you can tell by now, I really like this establishment. If you've walked by but haven't been sure whether to try it, my suggestion would be a...
Read moreThis was all store bought frozen food at best. I felt bad to say anything while there, but I am hoping the restaurant will take constructive criticism to improve. The calamari was decent, the tortilla for qusedilla tasted stale, and over spicey, the sour cream tasted expired and salsa too, and lamb shank was small piece, so spicey with red chilly flakes, and so salty too, all vegies had Chilli flakes, the marinara cheese pizza mostly cheese peices were lumpy did not melt, also store bought frozen type, as cheese did not even melt, there were thin looking green clear slimy hot sauce on top, our kids could hardly eat it. The burger my spouse ordered looked old frozen, that was hard, chewy, and the buns were also stale. It was the worst food we have eaten in Toronto or our lives it seems. The cook or whomever back there with a fridge and microwave should find a new gig. Us four really wasted to enjoy a nice family meal. This explains why we were the only ones eating there on a Friday night.
We come from cultures where we do not belive in being rude to service staff, and complaining about food, also there is a chance of someone spitting on the dishes if sent back, we never risk that. Hence, we did not say anything while we are there. We and our kids were very hungry, and do not belive in being wasteful of our hard earned money. Hence we ate it, but we will not be coming back. Never eaten such bad quality dishes laced with spice to hide the bad taste and quality. Defensiveness will keep that place...
Read moreWe dined at Hungry Jack's during the TD Salsa Festival. They had a specific menu for the event. No printed menu, just a server runs off a few items and option of 2 beers only. My partner ordered the Quesadilla and I ordered the burger with salad. The food came out of the kitchen within 3 minutes of ordering. The Quesadilla was ice cold, paper thin with a few random spots of filling which we think might have been chicken (which the server said there was no meat) and a few sprinkles of cheese. It was literally a grilled tortilla. My burger which the server said was a cheese burger did not have cheese. The patty was child size (less than 3oz) and ice cold like it came out of the fridge. The bun was not toasted, cold but the burger had shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes (not sliced which is very odd). The accompanied salad had several pieces of lettuce that was bad (when turns brown/black).
We only ate part of the food then just couldn't anymore. The beer was very cold so that is a plus.
When the server asked how everything was we informed her that the food was absolutely disgusting and insulting that they would serve garbage like that. She apologized but made no attempt to get the manager/owner who seemed fine serving something we would not even feed to our dogs.
We understand making a specialized menu for a special event however the food quality was beyond the worst I have ever had in my life and...
