I recently dined at Indraprastha Indian Cuisine in Scarborough and ordered the Paneer Butter Masala, accompanied by garlic naan and tandoori roti. While the naan and roti were satisfactory, the main dish left much to be desired.
The serving of paneer consisted of only eight small cubes, each approximately half an inch in size. This minimal portion was insufficient to complement the generous amount of gravy provided. Upon inquiring with the server, I was informed that this was the standard serving size. However, the imbalance between the ample gravy and scarce paneer was disappointing. To rectify the situation, I had to order an additional serving of 10 paneer pieces for $5, which added to the cost. This practice raises concerns about fairness, as the initial portion was inadequate for the price of \$16.99.
Additionally, I ordered buttermilk to accompany the meal. To my surprise, the buttermilk contained ginger, which I had not encountered before. When I mentioned this to the staff, they kindly offered to remove the charge for the buttermilk, acknowledging that it was not to my usual preference. While I appreciated their gesture, it highlights a lack of clarity regarding the ingredients in their offerings.
This experience was notably subpar in terms of portion size, especially when compared to other Indian restaurants in the area. Given the \$16.99 price point for the Paneer Butter Masala, I expected a more generous serving that justified the cost.
While Indraprastha offers a diverse menu with various vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, the portion size of the Paneer Butter Masala did not meet expectations. For those seeking a more satisfying and balanced meal, exploring other local Indian restaurants might be advisable.
Reply to owner: First of all, I would like to come to the reply of the owner that do you define "too many" as 2 people ?. One more thing did you mentioned the ingredients of buttermilk. Second, did you guys mentioned in menu that the portion is enough only for 1 person, No. So, customers doesn't think about asking for portion but if your price is $16.99 then atleast it creates a general hype that it would be enough for two person with 1 naan and 1 roti. But even the gravy left after it. So garvy is enough for "too many" but paneer is only enough for 1 person. Better mention this statement in your menu as a bold note to customers who are coming to your restaurant for first time...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews, but the customer service at this restaurant was so disappointing I felt compelled to say something. From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed disinterested and inattentive. I placed an order and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. I showed up a little after that, only to find out the order hadn’t even been started. When I asked about the delay, the lady server casually told me she didn’t note my order. No apology, no urgency to fix the mistake—just a shrug like it was no big deal.
I ended up wasting nearly an hour for nothing. This kind of careless, unprofessional service is unacceptable. If you value your time or basic customer respect, avoid this place. I won’t be coming back.
Responding to your comment - As if the terrible customer service wasn’t enough, now you can’t even read the review carefully!!!
Never said in my comment that we didn’t receive the order. We did, after more than 50 minutes. We know the order can’t be made in 1min that’s why we waited for 40minutes for the order. When we asked your server where the order is she, very causally, said that she didn’t note the order and had the audacity to ask, “when did you place the order?” It was shocking to see that she is so inattentive. After 20mins of placing order we followed up with her to see if the order is ready or not. She said it will take 20 more minutes. After 40minutes of waiting she ended up telling us that she didn’t note the order.
For your kind information we didn’t send back our order. In fact, we got the leftovers packed.
If you have the recordings then check it thoroughly before assuming and being rude to your customers. Clearly, you don’t know what you’re talking about and how to check a recording. Let me apprise you. We placed the order on 8.20pm. At 9pm, after waiting for 40mins your server told us she didn’t note the order. We received the biryani at our table at 9.15pm. I know an order can’t be prepared in 1min but it surely doesn’t take 1 HOUR to prepare the order.
Additionally, the biryani that we ordered was also very disappointing. Well, I don’t blame the chef because we have had that biryani before and we liked it. That’s why we ordered it again. But this time it wasn’t consistently good. In fact, we could figure it was...
Read moreWas a bit skeptical at first because I was sitting in the parking lot waiting for my colleague....You have to go to understand...
Once I went inside (waiting for my colleague), the beautiful music and delicious smells of South Indian food greeted me with pleasure, and Sheva greeted me with a warm and welcoming smile.
This warm and inviting restaurant is clean inside with lot's of space to sit for large groups, parties, family gatherings, and corporate meetings. The music is just the right level for conversations and the tables and booths are distanced enough for privacy.
That was my first impression inside after my initial skepticism outside.
After Sheva seated me, he described the different appetizers for me while waiting for my colleague.
We love spicy food. Not tomato hot sauce; Jamaican scotch bonnet/Indian green chili hot peppers chopped up in some oil!
This is Scarborough; there are no little chili pepper icons beside the dishes on the menu. You do need to know how hot each dish is or not!
Sheva brought the Dragon chicken. The name speaks for it's taste! It's not just packed with the heat I love, it's robust in flavours of garlic, paprika and more.
The warm garlic naan stayed warm and delicious; not cold and chewy as naan sometimes gets in other restaurants.
Sheva then brought us the Guntur Chicken curry, which is a red curry, marinated in it's many spices and also packed with the heat and flavour you will love.
Then we had the chicken Ghee Roast Biryani. The only words for this Biryani is "Oh my...thank you!".
Please have the Lemon punch. I drank 2...try it. Refreshing and uplifting; especially on a hot day.
Of course I cannot leave without having the Gulab Jamun and mango smoothie!
I must share. My colleague is South Indian and is a great cook. Every dish my colleague makes is from scratch. We are both impressed with Indraprastha.
Thank you Sheva and the chef who also came out to bring us food. We observed and listened to how you spoke with all your patrons this afternoon and how you explained the different dishes to your patrons.
We observed how people enjoyed what they were eating and took food home with them. We were a part of that and...
