Hello friends,

Please do not trust this place. Last night, we went out for a friends’ gathering, and around 5 AM, we decided to find a restaurant for Suhoor in Scarborough. Since we preferred something with rice and meat, one of my friends suggested Istar Restaurant in Etobicoke. We all agreed based on his recommendation.

As this was a time-sensitive situation where we needed to ensure the restaurant was open and that we would be served, we called ahead before departing from Scarborough. One of the staff members at Istar answered the phone, took our order—two chicken rice and one beef rice—confirmed it, and was provided with our estimated time of arrival.

Despite the heavy rain, we managed to reach the restaurant by 5:40 AM. We were super hungry and concerned about eating before Fajr. However, as soon as we entered, one of the staff members said, “We are closed, we are closed.” We informed him that we had placed an order over the phone, but he denied it, saying no one took our order and that they could not serve us.

Confused, we asked who had answered the phone and taken the order, but no one took responsibility. They simply kept repeating that they were closed. No one would drive 40 km just to hear a “sorry,” especially when the restaurant is listed as open 24 hours on Google Maps.

It is truly disappointing for a Muslim restaurant to act this way during Ramadan. If we hadn’t called ahead, it would have been our fault, but we did, and they still let us down.

Alhamdulillah, we found a Tim Hortons nearby and were able to grab some snacks for Suhoor.

Shame on you, Istar Restaurant.

Please treat people well—you run a business to serve others and support...

I was waiting for pasta and the cook told the girl on the counter 10 mins,15 mins past and the employee ask the cook again and the cook said it won’t be spaghetti but it will be macaroni and I said ok and then 3mins later the counter employee came and said it will be for a while so I turnaround I told cancel it.i spend an average $20 to $78 every week if not very 2 since 2009.this was my first experience of a cook that lies.the owner is good man-sorry Mohamed and adnan that I did this review but because you cook that was working there today Thursday evening he lied to a regular customer and also I was under the weather this have made me very upset. You guys have to get proper employees who doesn’t lie to your customers.i will never come back again after this issue that happened to me after spending so much money in 10 years I have been supporting this business.people beware their employees will lie to you especially the cook that works Thursday evenings.maybe he may work now a different day.i do not want to support this...

Not even 1 star but I have no option.

We were a group of five, driving all the way from Scarborough to Etobicoke in heavy rain, just to have Suhoor at this restaurant. Before making the trip, we called ahead to confirm if they were still serving and placed an order for two chicken and two beef meals. The order taker confirmed everything over the phone.

However, upon arriving at around 5:40 AM, we were shocked to find the restaurant closed. When we explained the situation to the staff, they were dismissive, and one employee even spoke with a bad attitude. To make matters worse, the very staff member who took our order over the phone refused to acknowledge it.

With Fajr Adhan approaching, we had no time to find another place, and thankfully, there was a Tim Hortons nearby.

Dear Management, please take this issue seriously so that no one else has to go through such an experience. Proper communication and customer service should...

My passion is to taste a different food I've never tasted before and a visit to a new restaurant. I visited this restaurant IStar Somali Cuisine when I was in this area. basically one of the restaurants which is open 24/7. Good customer service. Hailing from India, I could relate this Somalian food to my food. The lamb steak was their famous dish and it was at its best. The combo though compared to other Places, it was little pricey but justifies the quantity. I had packed the left over for next day's lunch. The lady over there was kind enough to treat me with another type meat to taste which i did not order at all. The combo comes with two types meat(chicken/Beef/lamb) with potatoes, salad and special rice mixed with raisins and spices. The beef samosas tasted at its peak. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all nationalities (you can handle the spice). They have breakfast options too.

Omg! How have I not known about this restaurant! First time going there today and I left SO happy! Right from the start to the end,I had an amazing experience! Adnan was so patient, explaining all the food and he did it with such a huge smile! J [Jay] was amazing with his wonderful sense of humor! I didn't realize they had Ugali...I was so shocked and excited! It did not disappoint! I'm vegetarian so Adnan put something together for me and it was delicious! The milk tea was so warming and comforting, reminding me of Ethiopia! The mandazi was so good! Not too sweet at all and paired perfectly with the tea! Thank you everyone there for making my first visit so memorable and amazing! Special thanks to Adnan and J! I'LL BE BACK [insert Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice] haha! Thank you Istar for allowing us to sit down and have a good "home" cooked meal!

All these years I've always thought that Somali food are known for jerk chickens and bbq food...til I finally visited this restaurant. My friend took me here for the first time and was so surprised with the amount of delicious choices. We ordered biryani chicken thighs and butter chicken with rice. It was a delicious new cultural food experience for me and even had a chance to speak to one of the family member and learned many things about Somali food...that their cuisines are fusions of different culinary traditions with someEast African, Arab, Turkish, and Italian influences. If your adventurous for many cultural food in one place this place is highly suggested. They also offer caterings and provide event venue for all kind of celebration. @foodtravelandwellness
