Went with the family for my step mother’s 70th bday! Overall had a good experience.
My sister called in the reservation. She had questions about if we brought a cake and if there was a service fee. But unfortunately the person answering the phone did not understand what my sister was asking or answered her questions. I would suggest having someone answer the phones who has a bit more experience in phone customer service.
Otherwise, our experience was really good! We were greeted as we came in by Lily who ended up being our server for the night. She was amazing to be honest. She really helped make our night special.
We ordered the Jatujak family platter along with some individual appetizers like the Coconut Shrimp and the Mango salad (yum!). Everything was tasty and the accompanying sauces gave us a choice of spicy, sweet or hot. To put this in perspective, my parents are from the West Indies and really like our home food best. There are few other cuisines they like. But I think they enjoyed it and said they would have it again.
Dad ordered the Cashew Nut Stir Fry with Tofu. He substituted the rice for egg noodles. Unfortunately, he didn’t like the tofu and was too polite to ask for something else. Lily to the rescue! She could see that he wasn’t enjoying and came over to see if everything was ok. He eventually felt comfortable enough to tell her and she said no problem! They remade the dish for him with shrimp! And it tasted better than the one they made with the Tofu. Thanks to Lily and the kitchen staff for doing this for my father! It really allowed him to enjoy the meal.
Step mom got the Jatujak Fried rice and asked for it to be medium level spicy. She thought it was so good. And hubby got the Spicy Basil Fried Rice and he polished it off. He’s not normally a fan of Thai food, but it was that good!
My sister got the Khao Soi. Presentation was 10/10 for this. The curry came separately in a gravy boat as to not make the noodles too mushy. She enjoyed it, but she can’t make up her mind as to whether she likes it better at this location or the Kingston Road location.
We took a cake for my step mother to cut and the staff was more than accommodating with giving us some plates and spoons, a knife to cut the cake, and take out containers to divide up what was left.
All throughout the meal, the servers regularly came to take away any used plates or napkins and to tidy up the table for us. They checked if we needed anything regularly without being overbearing. We had 2 seniors with us, and they showed care in making sure they got what was comfortable for them. For my parents having Thai food for the first time, it was definitely a good experience.
And, it’s halal at this location!
FYI, I think I read that the washroom is downstairs at this location so that might make it difficult for anyone who has a disability like mine where stairs are an issue. But, there is a ramp to the larger dining area which makes it wheelchair accessible. I forgot to check if there are any handicap push buttons on the doors to this location, but the entrance is a bit narrow and small for a wheelchair. It is an...
Read moreDeservedly popular with a diverse clientele and well reviewed Thai restaurant. The staff do seem to be Thai and are pleasant and efficient. The food is delicious.
Visited for the first time on Saturday around 6:30 PM without a reservation and chose to sit at the large table by the window instead of waiting 20 minutes. I liked the fun front room with sunlight filtering in versus the large back room.
Had the sausages, tom yum soup with shrimp, green curry with chicken and mango sticky rice for dessert.
The sausages were definitely garlicky, so if you don't like the Polish sausage from Costco, then this is not for you. The soup was very tasty with a nice balance of flavours. The green curry was one of the best I have ever tasted, rich and with intense flavour. But rating it two chilies in spiciness is a bit of a stretch. The sticky rice dessert was different from any dessert I have ever had before, the combination of mango, rice and sweet sauce really interesting and enjoyable.
Be aware that parking can be a bit tight in the front lot and reservations are a good idea on the weekends.
Tip: Pay your bill in cash and get a 10% discount from the already reasonable prices!
I am definitely going to be back to hopefully enjoy more dining experiences here!
Update May 2018: Came back and tried a few more dishes including chicken Khao Soi, tofu and veggies Pad Kee Mao, Jatujak Pad Thai, vegetable spring rolls and vegetable cold rolls. All good and the Pad Kee Mao definitely 2 chilis hot as indicated which I really appreciated. Great service again too. I'll be coming...
Read moreThis is one of my favourite Thai restaurant in the whole city. That food is always a top-notch quality. We order the spicy beef salad, which has so much meat it was so refreshing. The dish had a lovely fish sauce, sweet salty, sour vinaigrette, which tied all the fresh vegetables and the beef all together. The dish is about $17 but it tasted so so good. One of my favourite dishes for the restaurant.
For entrée, we order the classic pad thai with chicken and curry beef noodle khao soi. The portions were huge. The pad Thai was amazing, the noodle has a perfect crunchy chewy texture, covered in the perfectly seasoned tangy sauce. The way that they stirfry the noodle is literally to perfection because you can pick the noodle by someone buy one, but it is still so moist and chewy. The pot Thai has a lot of chicken, vegetable and tofu as well..
Oh, I did not expect to have a side table performance when they bring out the beef curry noodles. They pour the amazing rich creamy curry sauce over the noodles right in front of us. The noodle was set up to look like it was flying in the air, which was so impressive. This is also one of our favourite dishes, the beef was so tender, and went perfectly well with a creamy curry noodles soup.
We also got the mango, coconut, sticky rice for dessert, and it came out the shape of a little heart. The rice was soft so creamy and it was the perfect heavenly combination with the mango.
It was a wonderful dinner, and I wish to...
