I’m really sorry to give a bad review but feel I have to for this place. I had heard about this place and other reviews said it was good. I am not sure if I just had a bad experience but thought to let people know. I came into the restaurant and it was fairly empty. I got a seat with my family and we started to look at the menu. The table had a QR code, but the QR code didn’t work in order to see the menu. They handed us old takeout menus that were dog eared. It was all consistent. The menu I received items crossed out to the menu. The other family members received had everything included when we asked about one item they told us it was available at this location for the the red carbonara Katsu, the onion Katsu and the cheese Katsu service was quick in fact a little too quick. My onion Katsu was nothing like what the photo showed. I had 1/3 of the plate filled with cabbage, and the cat who cutlet sitting on top of the cabbage, and Surrounded were swimming in. The whole entire plate was a very runny liquid. What I think was onion soup The soup was cold. Pork was warm. Overall everything was soggy was not a good experience. We also tried the red carbonara the sauce was creamy however it had odd random pieces of shrimp and pieces of bacon in it, which was very odd the other dish which was most puzzling was the silver and gold , brick cheese Katsu. This was the worst that she had a very off taste.. we noticed that one piece had a pink colour and we realized that the pork was red bleeding on the cheese when we asked about this the server said that’s the normal reaction with the cheese to the meat. We felt funny about it ate another piece. It tasted really off put the food down and try to enjoy what we could however, by the end of the meal I was sick to my stomach and in the bathroom - the air conditioning was also not working it was extremely hot in the restaurant And it makes me wonder if the food was either going bad or wasn’t cooked properly like I said I don’t give a bad but if food is going to make me sick, I have to share that with others. Since we showed the server, the food was pink. They should have taken it back and cooked another meal, but they didn’t for my onion Katsu. I don’t understand why it was swimming in a liquid onion water that was very offputting. I was thoroughly disappointed and I really don’t think I will come back again. This is not the first time I’ve had Katsu, I’ve tried other places that were much better so...
Read moreI have been coming to Katsuya for two years and I am extremely disappointed with my most recent visit. My girlfriend and I ordered our favourite meal, and everything was going smoothly. My girlfriend then finds a small piece of hair which was curled in the creamy sauce. We call the waiter over and she apologizes but also reports back to another older waiter. They come and took away the food, and offered to replace the meal but my girlfriend lost her appetite. My girlfriend urged me to finish my plate and only ate one piece of chicken from her plate. While I was eating, i can tell that this caused some sort of commotion within their staff since no one else was in the store I can see and hear that the vibes were off. As I finished and went to the front desk to pay, the older lady who wasn’t even my server cashed me out. The initial receipt, was 20% for my girlfriend’s meal. I was taken aback by this and was trying to understand her explanation. She said that her chef does not have curly hair and that they wear hats to prevent this kind of thing, she then said it was possible my beard hair that was in the sauce. It wouldn’t make sense that my beard hair would be on her plate and not mine. Regardless, my girlfriend ate one piece of chicken maybe half the small portion of rice, and they said only 20% off. I was off-put by this, I told them I frequently come here and love their food but this time they are asking me to pay for food that wasn’t eaten. I was getting ready to pay the full-amount, when the older waiter then completely removed the meal and told me to pay for only what I ate. This really left a bad taste in my mouth. Such a shame a good restaurant has morals like this, where they make the customer feel like they did...
Read moreWow I don’t know if this is the norm but I think we got super lucky with both the food and service.
We came in a little over an hour before their closing time and the food and service was absolutely spectacular. We loved everything and this feels so rare nowadays lol - the lime water had the perfect citrus ratio (delicious water!!), next the soup really hit the spot too, and the food was delicious as well. Loved the red carbonara sauce and the katsu was juicy and crispy!
And the best thing was the very sweet staff who took our order, she was super attentive and nice, gave us water refills and extra napkins when she noticed we needed some more. And she probably also heard we were super hungry because when she brought out our first appetizer, she was jogging a bit to give the food to us a bit quicker. That was very sweet (and cute) of her to do that!! All in all, we liked everything about our food and experience here. I would love to come back again some time.
PS almost forgot to mention - the katsu is huuuuge. I looked at the pictures on google before going to the restaurant and had no idea how big the plate was! That was a lovely surprise. Even my pictures make the plate look normal size haha! It will definitely fill you up! Love how it comes with an abundance of thinly shredded cabbage as well, really helps cut down how rich the meal is. Also the red carbonara packed quite the...
