Some of the most bland Mexican food I've had in the city. I'd heard bad reviews but I still wanted to give them a chance cos maybe it was good.

We ordered UberEats and first, they took forever to prepare our order (about an hour for ceviche, tostada, burrito and some chicken!), then the Uber driver stole it, so we had to reorder and wait again. The second attempt got to us fine but after that wait, we were even more disappointed. My tostada was small for the price and seemed to have an excessive amount of onion. The ceviche was bland and unexciting. The chicken... was just chicken. The wings were so hot when they put them in the styrofoam they melted through the bottom! Gross. Funny thing is nothing we ordered was hot when we got it except for the plain tacos that came with the chicken which were really warm.

My burrito was brutal. I specifically ordered cheese on it--there was none. And note: cheese costs an extra $1!! It was plain rice, refried beans, ground beef and that's it! They claim it's "tomato stewed" but it tasted EXACTLY like they put some beef into campbells vegetable soup-- complete with the mushy peas, carrot and corn that come in the soup! Other than the flavour of Campbell's soup, it was tasteless. Didn't see any tomato, interestingly.

The so-called salsa is awful. It's basically half tomato sauce, half hot sauce. Really hot but no flavour! Amazing. The guacamole that came with the chicken was just mushed avocado. I'm very glad I didn't spend an extra $2 to get that on my burrito. (I have my own at home already.) The nachos that came complimentary were the best part and they were pretty plain too.

Won't be giving this place another chance. And joke's on the theiving Uber driver: he scammed and went thru all that effort just to get this bland...

Great atmosphere and brightly decorated. Went to location on corner of St. Clair and Victoria Park. Staff was polite, and courteous. Also amusing and friendly. I understand the majority if not all the staff were Mexican. The food was authentic not like Taco Bell. This is the real deal. I have added photos. I was with a group of 8. We had a table close to kitchen but it wasn't a hastle. Food service was a little slow but they were booked tight by the time we started ordering. Saturday at 7pm. We ordered multiple smaller dishes to share. The two soups (see picture) were listed in appetisers yet were served as a full soup. They both have a pepper broth (one said tasted like tomato soup) I disagree it was not very spicy but very tasty. One with tortillas chips the other other homini corn and pork. We shared mini beer battered fish tacos in soft corn tortillas with cheese and guacamole (2), mini beer battered shrimp tacos (2), I got a fresh shrimp tostada (large, luscious, jumbo shrimp perfectly cooked with fresh pico de gallo and diced veggies) on a crisp corn tortilla and my friend got a pork taco. Also tasty marinated pulled pork. All our dishes were in the $4 - $6 range. Then we added 3 Coronas between us. Perfectly paired with the mexican meal. Amazingly we had room for dessert, deep friend vanilla ice cream in a decadent chocolate sauce with a spray of real cream. And large churros (2) freshly fried and dusted with sugar and cinnamon, served with a decadent chocolate and a velvety caramel dips. The churros arrived at the table still warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Great time wax had by all. All reported we would be back again. I'm looking forward to trying the mini beer battered calimari tacos and another desert. Thanks for a great time and...

My buddy has been telling me how great this place is because him and his wife go there all the time. I made the trek to Scarborough and right off the bat I will mention that parking is going to be an issue to anyone who is not from the area of the restaurant. We managed to find parking on Vic Park but not really that close to the restaurant.

Walking in, the music and decor were very Mexican and inviting. The server who greeted us was very friendly as well. Ordering was tough because not many toddler friendly choices on the menu. For example, I was going to order just a side order of beans with some tortillas for my daughter but it turns out that the beans come standard with chipotle pepper making it too spicy for a baby. When they said it was not possible to have the beans without the chopped up chipotle inside then my heart broke because that usually means these beans are either mass produced, purchased and reheated just to serve; or made in the morning, mass produced, reheated and served. I am not a fan of supermarket instant food being served at restaurants at a premium.

I ordered the ceviche fish and shrimp, it was nice but not spectacular. I am on a quest to find the best ceviche in the city, but today I will have to keep looking. The nacho chips they serve with the ceviche seemed freshly baked so I appreciated that.

I also got the pastor tacos, but the meat was way too dry, they were cold and not savoury. I got the impression that this place is more about the drinks and atmosphere than the food so I will come back on a day when I can try the margaritas. As a family restaurant I am sad to say I...

It was a freezing Saturday evening when I visited Mexitaco for the first time. I arrived around 6:45 pm, which was a few minutes before the rest of my group and walked in to find all tables full. Smartly, I had made reservations a few weeks prior, as I would be dining with a large group. Once my group arrived and after studying the menu, I placed an order for frito plantanos, baja fish tacos and ceviche tostadas. Out of the three, the tacos were my favourite. The piece of battered fish was just the right portion to ensure the taco didn’t fall apart in my hand on its way from plate to mouth. I thought the plantanos would be sweet, but unfortunately they were too green and dry for my liking. The ceviche, which wasn’t tangy, came to my table piled high on a crispy tostada. For dessert, I went with the churros, which came with two sauces - caramel and chocolate. I knew I couldn’t go wrong with churros and highly recommend them when you visit. I found them not too sweet and dense and learned that if you can’t finish them in one sitting, they taste good the next day. Overall, I enjoyed my visit as Mexitaco gave me an as close to being in Mexico dining experience. From the warmth of the restaurant, (it was hot) to the friendliness of the servers, (they’re from Mexico), the music and vibrant décor (pinatas on the ceiling), I’m looking forward to visiting Mexitaco during the warmer months.

I’ve driven past this place a hundred times since it opened and for some reason—probably the location—never went in. Today I changed that and I’m SO GLAD I did! This place is the real deal. Really tasty and authentic Mexican food with a pretty decent draught beer selection (including a house brand light lager brewed for them by Mill St.). I had the Alambre Asados (grilled chopped steak and cheese with onions and peppers) with guacamole on the side and it was super tasty. It’s a generous dinner-sized portion with 5 corn tortillas but I was starving at lunch time and even then couldn’t finish it. My only complaint is that the guacamole seems like it came from a jar and is not made in house. (Still, I’d rather store-bought guacamole than none at all.) The server was happy to explain the menu to me and make recommendations, and even helped me with my Spanish. I will definitely be coming back to this hidden gem. Don’t disregard it because of its location like I did! As for parking, there’s very little on site, but there’s ample street parking on Pitt Avenue just one street east (30 second walk away). Yum yum yum! Would give 5 stars if they improved the guacamole.
