Updated my rating and review: I can see that the issue has been resolved in Uber, hence I am bring back my 5 star rating.
As mentioned before, this is by far the best authentic Baroda or Gujarat style of food I have had in Canada. You pick any item and they are awesome. My personal favourites are Sev Usal Amul Cheese Masala Vadapav Bread Roll Dabeli Veg Puff
The person woking in the kitchen has magic in her/his hands. One classic example of the magic is when you online order bread roll it comes crispy and it’s never soggy. Have tried dine in and online order and the food taste and quality has been amazing.
Previous review Must read for people ordering on Uber: I am changing my rating of this place from 5 to 1 only and only because of the owner of this place. The food here is amazing and hats off to the people in the kitchen who prepare it. However, the owner of this place is misleading people with offers on Uber Eats.
I saw the offer on Uber Eats on ‘Amul Cheese Masala Vadapav,’ which was ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free.’ But the price listed was $19.99, which is far higher than its listed price on the dine-in menu ($7.99), DoorDash ($8.99), and also on one of the images posted on Google by the restaurant ($7.99). So I called the restaurant before ordering to clarify if they would send me 4 vadapavs in total if I selected a quantity of 2 or would it be 2 vadapavs if I selected quantity 2. I was told that I would be sent 4. And that completely made sense because it aligns with the price for each vadapav, which I understand after adding the Uber markup would be around $10 against the dine-in price of $7.99.
To my surprise, I was sent 2 vadapavs only. I escalated the matter to the restaurant, and I got a call from the owner. His justification was: if I select a quantity of 1, then he would send me 2 vadapavs. If I select a quantity of 2, he will still send me 2 vadapavs. If I select a quantity of 3, then he will send 4 vadapavs. According to him, this is a way to help people who mistakenly forget to select 2 quantities on a ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ offer; hence, he would send 2 vadapavs instead of 1. And his logic is, by selecting 2 quantities and applying ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free,’ I am paying $20, so I should get only 2 vadapavs. But how is that ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ then, if your actual price is in fact approximately $10 for 1 vadapav? You increase the price by 100% and then call it ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free.’
So that means if I really want only 1 piece of vadapav and I don’t want 2, then I will have to pay $19.99. But here the owner says he will still send 2 instead of 1 because people make the mistake of not selecting quantity 2 for items which are on Buy 1 Get 1 offer. And he is helping people that way, and no other resturant does that, according to him. But the truth is you would send me 2 because the original price is approximate $10 and not because you want to do good, and you are just sending me 2 because I paid $19.99.
The same is the case with Dabeli, Pav Bhaji, and all other items on ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free.’ Basically, they increase the price by 100% and then call it ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free.’ Fine, it’s your restaurant, and you are free to set your price however you want. But don’t mislead people by saying, ‘I will send 2 vadapavs even if people select 1 because I am helping them.’ You are simply doing it because that’s the price. And do not confuse people on quantity.
Your policies confuse your staff, and hence they had to call you three times and call me back twice to clarify. Even they didn’t seem to understand what you were doing, which is why they had to clarify so many times.
Summary of what the owner said on the ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ offer on the Amul Cheese Masala Vadapav: • Select quantity: 1, and I will give you 2 vadapavs. • Select quantity: 2, and I will give you 2 vadapavs. • Select quantity: 3, and I will give you 4 vadapavs.
And what the restaurant staff said before I ordered: • Select quantity: 1, and we will give you 2 vadapavs. • Select quantity: 2, and we will give...
