Wanted to try chung moi since they are in my area. Ordered chilli chicken dry medium spicy, and their chicken and shrimp rice noodles. The chilli chicken dry is very good. The chicken is fried enough to caramelize the edges and make it crispy. However, the chicken and shrimp rice noodles is somewhat puzzling. There is very little chicken and shrimp, and a lot of bland unseasoned thin white noodles. Very little vegetables... for 13.50$ !?!?!? Either the majority of their customers enjoy bland food or i ordered a dish that is seldom requested. Cautionary note: I will order some other dishes from this restaurant BUT will stay away from their chicken and shrimp rice noodles. They are literally stealing 13.50$ out of my pocket... Not a good first impression for me....
Returned a few days later to try their hot and sour soup, and their singapore rice noodles. The soup is too sweet, ... we prefer more sour than sweet. The singapore rice noodles are abit of a let down too, ... they break the overly thin rice noodles into short lengths or their cooking breaks them into short lengths. And their is not much of a spicy flavor in the dish itself.
The reason i wanted to try chung out is cause there is another hakka place close by ... good luck restaurant. I think chung has been in the area longer but i feel good luck cooks their food more to the spice level that i appreciate. And, they have a stronger flavor...
Read moreI happened to find this gem when I was attending night school across the street at CDI College. Their food is fantastic!!!!. I have had so many friends take me to other âHakkaâ restaurants but they are no match for Chung Moi. The quality, the flavour and the attention to detail etc is always spot on. The Young Chow (House Special) fried rice is something that I could literally eat every single day if it was realistic, itâs fantastic. Their chili chicken has real chili peppers and it also tastes fantastic. Anywhere else I have tried chili chicken in most cases the taste is off and most importantly there are no fresh chili peppers. Their Beef Broccoli is also superb. They have a variety of fried rice to cater to every palate and every taste bud. I have tried many different foods here and they are all great. I wish there were more Hakka places with similar flavour, taste and quality but unfortunately there is not. So I take the drive from the west end of the city all the way to Kennedy Rd. to get their food. Lastly, their pakoras are mouth watering and once again contain fresh chili peppers. If this place ever closed down or was taken over by new owners I would be thoroughly depressed for a very very long time. Please keep up the great quality, great flavours and most importantly the warm hospitality that the owners...
Read moreOk, so after hearing and reading so much about this place, I knew I had to try it for myself. I wanted to first try their lunch special first before going all in and order a whole multi-item meal for dinner.
I got the Chilli Chicken with plain rice, and I have to say it was honestly really delicious. The sauce was packed with a pepper flavour that I've never had before and the chicken was so great, it felt like I was eating white meat the whole time. I didn't get a single piece of cartilage. The quantity was huuuugeee, I know I could definitely eat 2 more servings and still not finish. Lastly, I loved that fact that the chillies in the sauce were fresh! Like you could actually see the vibrant green colour in the dish and it made a world of a difference! I feel like most other restaurants put the vinegar chillies in their chilli chicken dishes, so this was a pleasant surprise!
They were also nice enough to give us chillies in vinegar and red chilli sauce for free with the meal when we asked. Lately a lot of restaurants have been pretty strict and refuse to give those out with lunch specials, reserving them only for dinner take out.
Overall, the pricing for this place is a bit high, but after tasting the food, I can see the quality of the ingredients they use...
