Nova Era Bakery — Restaurant in Toronto

This location is hit and miss. I thought it was just me but I hear the same feedback from the rest of my family.

Food -- 5 stars so no issues there (if you can get this far). Their pastries are good, the bread delicious and their sandwiches filling and overall at good prices.

Customer service -- 2 stars. Sometimes I get one of the persons who has been there longest so I know she's a permanent employee. The service is day and nigh and is really good. And then other days I get someone "new" (it seems there is always someone new) and customer services leaves me wondering why I come back.

A couple of items that irk me: Why doesn't the tuna salad sandwich come with lettuce or tomatoes? The funny thing is that they're free anyways but they make it a point that they're not included. Then I ask how much it is to ad them and they say it's free. Then, why didn't you agree to put them on when I requested them in the first place? Or, is it just to emphasize that it's not included? Why have a deli bar if it's a hassle (for the employee) to sell it? Not to mention that the order keeps getting messed up so we end up having to buy the right deli again!

Customer service was so poor we actually started trying out the bakery on the other side of the corner and also looking out for more bakeries in the area. Hopefully we'll find our next favourite or hopefully Nova Era can improve their customer...

I experienced blatant racism and discrimination during my visit. The staff were incredibly rude and dismissive. The server hastily packed our food into a few bags and told us to "figure out" if everything was there. When we pointed out that two orders were missing, she condescendingly suggested we hadn't checked properly, implying we were lying.

I'm extremely disappointed and won't be recommending this place to anyone. If you are of Portuguese descent, you might receive better treatment, but otherwise, expect to be disregarded. What's more insulting is that my family has a Portuguese background and they treated us poorly just because we don't physically appear to fit the staff's stereotypical image of a Portuguese person. Zero stars for Nova Era Bakery.

The restaurant was busy due to Portugal's match and it was clear that the staff prioritized other customers based on their ethnicity. Every individual that walked in to the store got a seat excluding my family.

Terrible service, decent food and prices.

I've been here a few times and each time it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get my order. My partner and I went there for breakfast once and ordered two bagels with cream cheese. It took 15 minutes to get us one bagel! Then we had to wait another 10 to get the next one. It shouldn't take 25 minutes to toast two bagels. If it was busy I'd understand but it was dead. I could see the workers (who are mostly teenagers) chatting behind the counter doing nothing.

Another time we were here we waited for our breakfast sandwiches and eventually went up to the counter to see what was going on since it had been a really long time and they forgot to bring it out to us. Whoever is the manager of this place you need to get your staff in order, they're terrible.

On the bright side the food is actually always good and the prices are fair. But I don't plan on going here anymore because of the awful service...
