I am in the area and discovered this place recently, and I would not recommend. Without any background knowledge, here's what I thought:
I was looking for good coffee around the area. I tried a few places, wasn't really impressed so I decided to try Paris bakery. Initially when I went in, the older lady was nice once I told her I had never been there before. I ordered a coffee and a cannoli. The coffee and dessert were good.
I decided to go back. The next time and the times afterwards, I was "greeted" by younger staff. I use quotations because they were not friendly and were helping anyone who was Portuguese before me, despite being in line. I've found the comments on here of subtle racism and unfriendly staff to be true (I honestly thought it was just me!) The young staff typically get my order wrong (coffee dbl dbl with Expresso shot) and when I ask them to correct, I usually get attitude.
Now, the desserts. Since the first day I visited, I have not had a fresh dessert. They have typically been stale. I only bought desserts because I had to spend at least $5 to use the debit machine. Not worth it. Make sure you carry cash on you.
Finally and recently after I stopped going, I have heard horror stories of hygienic concerns and food poisoning instances.
You want good food and service? Fahmees bakery right down the street as well as kibo sushi. McDonald's also has great service! Those are good places that I would recommend and I go to...
Read moreGo here every Sunday evening to get bread, this bread is 10x better than any Caldense, Nova Era or anything around that provides anything close to regular Portuguese buns. After getting buns from previous places, we’ve never looked back since getting bread from here. My in-laws are Portuguese and speak very highly about the “Mafa” buns here - bigger than regular papo secos. They’re always well done and the crust is baked to perfection. The mini buns are also great too. We freeze them and when we use them during the week they’re still good. Sunday evening staff through the year have been extremely friendly. Had a Portuguese tart this past weekend, it was good, I don’t expect the pastries to be perfect. Others need to lower their expectations because many of these bakeries from here to Caldense, Nova Era, etc. are never that great. If you know you know, they almost always taste like refrigeration, so don’t order it from anywhere. People come here for bread more than pastries. For pastries please go to a higher-end french pastry place. this place isn’t it for pastries as I consider it more like the other Portuguese/Italian bakeries around. The bread...
Read moreWhy is there a bar in here? Why does the lovely girl at the counter have to endure old drunk men harassing her while she just tries to serve customers pastries? It's completely bizarre. There doesn't seem to be any oversight of the situation, and it just makes no sense. This is a bakery, the baked goods are great, people want to go in there and have a delightful time, maybe bring their children... not have to deal with a half dozen drunk men smelling of smoke crowded around the deli counter. I'm surprised the liquor board hasn't shut it down with the display I witnessed, which seems to be a common occurrence.
Also, her co-worker (a young man) completely ignored me, ignored her, did not help her, when I was ordering he interrupted me to ask her a question about something...
