Extremely poor customer service. No, let's change that . . . HORRIBLE customer service, during BOTH of my visits to this sleezy place. Disrespectful, blank-faced, rude servers who barely speak English. Why does this place hire non-English-speaking servers, when it is located in a Canadian mall where every other restaurant and shop has English-speaking clerks? In "Pearl Bayview Chinese Cuisine", for the customer, the simplest request turns into a chore of repeating yourself six times (I would like another napkin please. "What you mean --naaap--kinnn??) You know -- this white thing (holding one up). "No understand. What you mean -- naap-kinn?") So then I ask to speak with the Manager (hoping I'll get lucky and end up with an employee who speaks English). "No permit speak with Manager...What you mean?") etc. etc. You get the drift. Wow. The Pearl Bayview has the WORST customer service I've probably ever received in a Chinese restaurant in my life! Seriously. The servers ignore you (walking past you 6 times, while you waive vigorously to TRY to get their attention). They just go to the Japanese/Chinese customers . . . and IGNORE you if you are any other color. Double-Wow. Won't be going back to this dump. Trust me, the food quality won't matter to you at all, when you experience these rude, moron, blank-faced, empty-expression, non-English-speaking servers and their neglect. Guess you can see they really got me angry--enough to write this review of my experiences, and to warn others of...
Read moreI recently had the misfortune of dining at Pearl Bayview, and it was an absolute disaster from start to finish. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with nothing but rude and dismissive behavior from the owner. The hostess was pleasant enough, but the owner quickly swooped in, acting annoyed that we were even there.
Throughout our meal, the owner repeatedly passed by our table, glaring at us as if we were an inconvenience. When we had a minor issue with one of our dishes and politely brought it to their attention, the owner's response was shockingly rude. Instead of an apology or any attempt to rectify the situation, we were met with a condescending lecture about how we were wrong and the dish was perfect as it was.
The owner's attitude was not just unprofessional but downright hostile. They made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, turning what should have been a pleasant dining experience into an unpleasant ordeal. It's clear that the owner has no concept of customer service and does not value their patrons at all.
Overall, the atrocious behavior of the owner completely ruined our evening. If you're looking for a place where the owner treats you like a nuisance rather than a valued customer, then Pearl Bayview is the perfect choice. Otherwise, steer clear and take your business somewhere that actually...
Read moreWas here for dinner on a Saturday December 7th, probably not a good time to eat at a mall restaurant being so close to Christmas, but we did get a table around 6:15pm. The restaurant was very busy. Wanted to go on the website to look at the menu but it was down, I did mention this to the owner? when I came in, no response. I did then go to the menu at the Harbourfront location. One problem, there are no desciptions of the dishes; some items are obvious but not all, so a description would be appreciated. I agree with the other reviewers; the dishes are overpriced compared to most chinese restaurants; $23, $25 and up. I thought the food was good, but not exceptional to warrant the high price for an average size portion. The service here suffered because it was so busy. They didn't give us a wine/beer list we had to request one, which makes me believe most people that come here do not drink. We had spring rolls to start, Kung pao chicken, a chef recommended beef tenderloin dish and country style fried rice w/ shrimps, scallops, chicken & mixed vegetables (this I would not order again). A lot of the menu items are just to pricey to consider. Maybe will give one more chance when less busy...
