I'm always searching for the best donuts and cinnamon rolls, fritters etc. So I searched out a local bakery and decided to give it a try based on the reviews. I recently visited the Port Union Bakery. First of all the lady behind the counter was extremely friendly and helpful. The bakery itself is small which is totally fine. It's a little on the run-down side, maybe dated is more accurate. I was hoping to try some other items but they weren't too appealing, at the very least I wanted to try the donuts so I purchased 1 dozen assorted. ($10.50) While I disagree that these are "Scarborough's best kept secret" as I have seen reviewed, I will say they were ok. They were not stale but not that pillowy fresh which is what I look for. I went in at 12pm. The Dutchie was the best out of the box. The Boston Cream was probably second best. The custard inside was good. I had high hopes. Was it bad? Absolutely not. Can I find better donuts closer to home? Yes. If I lived in the neighborhood I would probably come by again. Do I recommend this business? No. I won't go out of my way to visit again. I wasn't wow'd.

Great service! Our server was very polite, friendly & patient with us since it was our time visiting this bakery. It's the best bakery I have been to in a while. The vibes were family friendly come on in and enjoy some yummy donuts. The reason I was there was for the donuts, but I had to get everything else too. HELLO!! There were donuts, mini donuts, empadas, crossiant, bread cookies. Everything you can ask for, they almost had it. We got there at 1 pm. Wasn't so busy, which was good. We got to look around, and the prices were amazing. What a doughnut should cost $1.50. They weren't fancy donuts but the old fashion kind you would get as a kid. So fresh, the doughnuts melted in my mouth. We got 6 donuts @1.50 each, mini dot 12 for $2, 3 empadas for 1.75 each. Ube $1.50 & Bottle water $17.73. We didn't have cash, but we did have a debit card. And our server was like it's okay." You can come back and pay." We were blown away he said that. It's not like that in the world anymore. Portions and prices you can't bet. I will definitely be going back for more 🍩

After seeing Port Union Bakery on TikTok I had to go there! It’s a classic old style bakery, small but warm vibe. I was lucky to get there at a time it wasn’t busy around 10:30am and was excited to get their sourdough bread and apple cake! The sourdough bread was still warm! I got it sliced and immediately had a slice with butter once I got home. So pillowy soft and delicious! I asked if there was any yeast and they said very little but they have their own starter so it’s a hybrid rather than authentic, yeast free sourdough bread. I also got a pork empanada and it was good. I got a fresh, classic glazed donut and with one bite and I was in heaven! It reminded me of glazed donuts I had growing up so it was blissfully nostalgic! I haven’t tasted the apple cake but it looks so good. Lots more I want to try on my next visit. All the prices were great too. A big shout out and thanks to Cail who was working the counter. He made me feel very welcomed and shared a bit of history of the bakery that’s been around since 1978.

Tried this place for the first time last week, and I have to say I was disappointed with the quality of the ingredients.

Order: Six donuts Sourdough bread Spinach and cheese empanada

When I got home, I decided to warm up the Boston cream donuts in the oven. The chocolate on top melted, but I quickly noticed something was off , the melted substance stuck to the plate like caramel or corn syrup. It definitely wasn’t  chocolate. It took very hot water and a scrub brush to clean it off the plate, which chocolate wouldn’t require.

The “sourdough” bread also seemed suspicious. It lacked the signature sourdough flavour and texture, and I’m fairly certain it was just regular white bread. Overall, this felt like a waste of money, especially knowing that places like COBS actually make proper sourdough.

Cons: -Substituting real chocolate with a chemical caramel/corn syrup mix -White bread being passed off as sourdough -Spinach and cheese empanada was cold, dry, stale, and flavourless

Pros: -Friendly staff -Muffin was great

Unfortunately, I won’t be returning. It definitely wasn’t worth the 30–45 minute drive, and the online reviews and ratings were far...

IF I COULD rate it would be 0!!!!!Today I went in to purchase some treats.. the young lady with the purple shirt was speaking to a older lady in her language they stared laughing.. then the young lady in the purple shirt went to the back said something in her language then all the family employees started laughing and coming from the back… I was confused as I did not understand what they were talking about.. after purchasing my items a lady came from the back and said “we watched the camera and we know you made a bad review why did you come back??” ..she then started laughing… I was extremely confused I didn’t know what she was talking about and in my opinion a review is constructive criticism so they customer shouldn’t attack someone for helping to better the business …also it extremely weird to look at the camera for a review.. LOOL it wasn’t a robbery 😂… nothing was stolen .. extremely creepy I’d never go back there to support such a business I strongly recommend the owner go back and look at his employees interaction be mindful of the people you have representing your store.. speaking in a different language is...
