I recently moved back into this neighborhood and was sad to see that the previous owners of Renforth Fish 'n Chips had sold the place and moved on. I grew up here and this place was a local institution. My wife and I had wondered about their Korean fried chicken for a while; we've had plenty of Korean fried chicken elsewhere and but a fish 'n chips joint doing Korean FC in an area of town that has barely any Korean/Asian people? Hmmmm...not sure - that is until a foodie friend in west Mississauga told me this week that she swears by this place and that we had to try it. DONE! Off we went tonight. The picture I've included here is of the small portion of the "seasoned chicken". What you don't see is the delicious puddle of thick plum-sauce-on-crack that the chicken is wading in.

All I can say - EXCELLENT. This review is obviously of their Korean FC, which stands up against the best of them, and not the fish 'n chips, which I cannot comment on. The skin is perfectly crispy, not as overly greasy (a hallmark of Korean FC, which is double-fried), all pieces of meat super juicy (including the white meat) and the sauce has the perfect twang to it. According to the owner, small=half chicken ($19-20) and large=whole chicken ($30-31). Can't wait to go back and try their garlic and padak flavours!

Like the previous incarnation of this place, it's a mom 'n pop shop, and the owners were very pleasant. At the time of writing this review, I can't think of a better place to order from with the "support local business" campaign during Covid. Forget The Fry and MyMyChicken. This is the place you want. Stop thinking and order. Your mouth...

We ordered a family pack from this place. It was our fist time here to order pick up.

When you try and order online from their website it takes you directly to skip the dishes instead of allowing you to order direct. If you navigate around you can find their phone number and order directly.

We picked up our food. A 5 piece halibut family pack cost us $84.50. Not bad if the food was worth it.

But... here’s the lowdown:

FISH: The fish was definitely not halibut. It was greasy, not white and flakey as it should be, and very thin. There was no crispiness to it. I called the owner and confirmed if he gave us halibut or haddock, he insisted he gave us halibut, which I find extremely hard to believe. Halibut is white, and flakey, this was yellow / grey and had many dark spots. Zero chance this was halibut.

ONION RINGS: As you will see in the picture, these were not fully cooked and the GREASIEST onion rings I’ve ever seen. They were doused in oil, and undercooked. The container had a big layer of oil on the bottom that they sat on. Quite disgusting to be honest.

COLESLAW: This was actually very good. It was a tiny container considering it was for a family pack.

GRAVY: Typical brown gravy. Not bad. Very thick

FRIES: Decent fries. Not fresh cut like other places I’ve had. They were not very greasy at least.

PACKAGING: They package the items in cardboard containers wrapped with paper.

OVERALL: I would not recommend this location. The food was overly greasy, poor quality and the owner did not own up to giving us haddock instead of halibut, despite the...

I was craving fish and chips and just heard some great things about this mom 'n' pop shop so I decided to try it. Was I ever glad that I did! The fish is so fresh and tender and the only thing I could gripe about was whether to get the halibut or the cod (because I absolutely LOVE both)! Since I couldn't decide, I figured I'd get both,I mean why not?

First I tried the halibut. When I cracked the crispy battered layer, I was welcomed with picture perfect steam which was visibly intoxicating from the freshly cooked fish. The aroma brought me back to back when my uncle used to fry the fish on the docks of the west coast.

I was going to save the cod for dinner later but I couldn't resist and actually ate it on the spot! Can't believe I finished both (it's really filling). You can imagine what a pleasant surprise it was, especially going in without any expectations. The family running this place is super friendly and the service is that much better because of it. It's a bit of a trek for me to come all the way from Vaughan but believe it or not, I will be making more trips in the future and I'm bringing my wife who is something of a fish connoisseur, and I'm super curious about their new fried chicken recipe.

Highly...

I live in the area and enjoyed having it as a treat for my boys as we LOVE fresh cut fries. I think we can all agree generally fish and chip places are quite generous with their portions particularly their French fries. However, the last visit I had meaning today, I was charged $11 for a box of fries that were not even filled. The top actually sunk in. I'm appalled. Potatoes are probably one of the few things that have not been increasing in cost. These used to cost me $7.50!!! I think what is more insulting is that my husband purchased the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago and the gentleman that served him gave the traditional generous portion of fries. This was truly a disappointment. After 15 years, that's the last they'll see of my hard earned money.
