I once asked a girl I secretly had a crush on out on a date. It was after I agonized for days wondering if I should do so, because it would have very obviously exposed how I felt and made me vulnerable to a devastating rejection. I finally gathered enough courage to ask, and... she just laughed and said no. Needless to say, I was heartbroken, but that wasn't the hard part. That titled belonged to the aftermath, when I had to smile, pretend to look on the bright side, stay positive and tell myself it was okay. If only I had found this restaurant then. The food would have warmed the darkest recesses of my heart, and the wonderfully patient lady who served me (she was polite even when a nasty customer was super rude, made sure elderly customers were able to sit down and take their time to order for takeout, repeated their orders to make sure they knew what they were buying, and did everything with alarming speed) would have helped me regain some faith in humanity again. This place will not only heal broken hearts, it will make a normal person feel better too.

Overall, an exceptional Cantonese restaurant within Scarborough, with an extensive menu that is sure to appeal to many. With options ranging from dim sum and hot pot, to congee and soup, there is much variety to be had. The atmosphere appears modern and sleek, and is incredibly spacious, though it does lack overall warmth. The food however compensates greatly -- with virtually any dish being worthy of acclaim and is exceptionally filling and affordable. Highly recommend the Cantonese chow mein if you're looking for a decent meal. If you're looking for a bite but lack the appetite, try BBQ meat bun, Beef Brisket Noodle Soup or Egg Tofu with Dried Scallop and Mushroom. Service is a little slow at times as there sometimes is only one server attending the front of house, but otherwise, the staff is friendly and kind. Definitely a great place to grab late-night grub on a budget.

We love Royal Congee! Its a small unassuming little restaurant in a plaza but the food is always fresh, well prepared, and my kids crave it all the time. We regularly get the Cantonese chow mein, sweet sour chicken, spicy squid, gailan choy, yeung chow fried rice and this time we tried their chicken wings. The food is authentic Chinese, not Canadian Chinese so don't expect to find chicken balls and red sauce here. The food is always delicious and prices are very reasonable. Dine in for bigger portions!

If you’re going for dinner here expect a significant time of waiting from being seated to getting your food. Went on Saturday night dinner. It was busy for sure and it’s disappointing to see only one (only one) staff doing all the taking orders, serving of food, clearing the table and taking take out orders on the phone. It took the server 15 mins to clear the table out after the party of 4 had left just by the front door. We got seated at the same table after waiting 20 mins. Ordered 4 items immediately from the menu. First item took 20 mins to get served on our table. Our group ate it all since we were starving from waiting. The next item took 30 mins to arrive after our initial order. At this point it’s already 50 mins since putting in our order. Then the rest of the orders came some 30 mins after the second item was brought to the table. So it took ann hour and 20 mins to get 4 simple items on the table. Overall food is 7/10. I commend the one woman band running the show. But they need to hire at least one server or maybe two. TBH the food is not worth the wait when dining in. Waste of time waiting for food for...
